hellooo everyone
this is my first post ever... i made an account just now just so i could make this post.
my dream school is uf. i'm in love. last year, i was a part of uf high school day where you march the halftime show with the gator band and i was enchanted ever since. i officially toured their campus several days ago and i fell in love all over again.
the unpredictability of the admissions is making me a little anxious, so i just want some feedback even though no one can be sure of my outcome.
i am currently a junior in ib. i'm african-american and female if that matters.
my gpa is 3.6 uw/4.1 w (but it is getting updated because i failed bio q2 as well as the exam but im getting both changed from an F to an A lol so we're looking at maybe 3.7 or 3.8 uw?) (pls don't judge lol ik it's bad)
i'm not going to take the act because i'd like to focus on dramatically improving my sat, in which my first attempt was a 1110. 630 reading 480 math.
i know my sat is my weakest point, but i've got all summer to study since im taking it in august. my biggest problem was that i forgot a bunch of the math basics but i'm relatively good at math so im aiming for a 1400-1500+ since it's uf.
i've taken 3 aps and i will have completed 4 ap exams. 3 on ap euro, 4 on ap psych, i have my ap lit exam tomorrow but i'm only taking the exam- i didn't go through the course (i did not choose this), and i have my apush exam in a few days.
i'm hoping that my ib status will make up for my lack of aps taken, which i think it will.
i feel as though i'm lacking in ecs because i've seen many others do a lot more, but here's what ive got:
- all four years of marching band, 2 years section leader, this upcoming year i'll be band captain
- secretary of our school's writing club for 2 years
- founded a Christian club with 20+ attendees (my school is quite small)
- HCTE writing contest: last year i won 2 honorable mentions and this year i won 2nd place in nonfiction (there's poetry, fiction, and nonfiction)
- qualified for competing in Poetry Out Loud's state level
- Upward Bound Olympics 2025, won 2nd place in creative writing at a regional level
- clubs: Tri-M (performed at senior homes), NHS, Key Club, Spanish Honor Society
- performed for theater at the USF One Act Festival
- +150 or so cas hours
there's probably more but that's what i got for right now.
i want to major in media production, so i plan to emphasize my passion for music and writing in my personal statement; i think that's what'll carry my application along with the sat i'll work hard to achieve. i'm a good writer and thankfully i'll have people to look over my essay so like i already stated im counting on that.
i know that there are many more majors that are more competitive than mine, so i'm counting on the slight lack of competition, my ib diploma, and my essay to hopefully get me accepted, but am i too hopeful?
i think the fact that i've passed my pre-ib, honors, and ib classes throughout the years will help my gpa out when it's recalculated. but again, please let me know if i'm being too optimistic.
i know that admissions are quite random- i've been reading up on it a lot since im a little anxious, and since i've seen that some ppl with perfect stats get rejected while some ppl with 900-1200 sat still get accepted, i don't know what to think.
a long post, i know, but please help this wannabe gator know if she has a shot!
