How do Honorlock cheating accusations come?

My friend recently received a cheating violation in their email from a class that they took last fall. I have taken a lot of classes requiring Honorlock and it makes me paranoid of receiving a violation way down the road when I least expect it. Do all professors review all of the footage months later or something? How do people get caught much later?

Online admissions delay?

The final result date was supposed to be 1st July, haven’t heard back or found an update even on the application status page + no response from the counsellors and directors?

Is anyone else facing this?

I built a debate app for civility. Users wanted to be toxic.

So I’m obsessed with debate, I’ll be honest, and I’ve noticed, as I’m sure we all have, that discourse in recent years has gotten really toxic.

It’s either a dogpile, throwing insults, being condescending, I don’t need to rehash what I imagine we all already know.

I built an app where people could swipe on topics, get matched with someone who disagrees, and get a score on their civility. The idea was that if you’re always an asshole, your shitty civility score would follow you and no one would want to talk to you.

I added a feature in passing called toxic mode that did not judge your civility. Spew your venom, no holds barred.

That was the idea.

Every time I got an install on the app, every single user immediately jumped into toxic mode. Out of 100+ downloads, not a single person wanted to have a civil discussion. They wanted the messy version. The heated version. The version that felt more like a chaotic internet argument than a polite debate club.

So I stopped fighting it and built a lightweight browser version where you can just pick a topic and jump in:

https://thinklavender.com/ragebait

The goal is still to get people talking to people they disagree with. Maybe the first step is not making everyone perfectly civil. Maybe it is just getting them in the same room.

And if that room has to be a little toxic to get people through the door, so be it.

Would love feedback on the idea and whether this feels like something people would actually try.

finance or accounting?

should i major in finance or accounting in college? some things about me:

i love math! i have very strong math skills for my age and this has set me ahead in many logic based classes (ap econ, ap comp sci, all ap math, etc.)

im an incoming freshman into the uf honors program!

i’m def interested in finance but esp with computer science losing people to ai, everyone has shifted to finance. i feel like it’ll be very hard to get a job in finance unless ur like the top 5 in ur school. i like the competitive aspect of it but if i lose id end up without a job

accounting seems a bit more boring with the repetitiveness but at least i’d be guaranteed a job.

what should i do? im planning to major in either accounting or finance and pair it with a math major so i cant do both bc that would be 3 majors. or should i drop math and do accounting and finance? would appreciate any advice!

Is the gym any good?

I just started going to the gym every other day with a PPL split. I go to a Planet Fitness now.

I start at UF soon, and I'm concerned about how crowded on-campus gyms like the SRFC will be.

If I wanted to go to an on-campus gym every other morning, would I run into crowding issues? Is it more worth it to go to an off-campus gym?

There's no way this is serious, right?

I graduated last December and have since been receiving emails regularly through my UF account. Over the last couple weeks this has been popping up; from an official UF email, asking to renew my information and give my password... on a Google doc... something that Google explicitly tells you not to do.

Am I dumb? If it's an obvious scam I'm surprised they are able to send from a ufl email address. If it's official, why are they using a Google doc???

UF transfer

Has anyone successfully transferred from FSU to UF as an engineering major? I heard they prioritize Santa Fe and community college transfers. Is it better to apply for spring or fall?

Bars w/ little to no cover fee?

Hey guys,

Little new to the area, but I’m looking for some bars or clubs with little to no cover fee. I wanna out without breaking my wallet from cover fees.

Any bars on certain days/times that charge lower or no cover fee at all?

Must-try restaurants in Gainesville?

I’m still fairly new to Gainesville and have a couple friends (mid to late 20s) passing through town for a night in two weeks. I’d love to take them somewhere for lunch or dinner, but I’m not sure where.

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about The Dunbar, but I wasn’t sure if there were any other places worth looking into. Any recommendations?

health insurance?

my sister just started at UF and they said they don't take her insurance so they're automatically opting her into their insurance which is super expensive. why do they require insurance, if we already have? is there any loopholes around this? Our insurance is great IMO, but apparently it doesn't meet their requirements.

my dad also tried looking into other insurance plans that meet UF's requirements but it's super expensive.
