Flying Aer Lingus this week, and a couple Qs

This return flight will get me to gold but I have the "try gold for a trip". Is it worth it? I already have a lounge pass for the alaska lounge at SFO and I don't think I can get one in Dublin. So I think the answer is not work it but wanted to see what the group thought. Is there a status miles bonus I could unlock?

Secondly - I plan to pay for a seat towards the front since they its likely to have a row to myself and I can see this in the flight map, but I can just wait to do this at check in, right? I don't want to waste an hour on hold with Aer Lingus if I can avoid it.

Update - it looks like AA / OW status members get access to 51st and green (+ a guest). Can anyone confirm?

Linked reservation and upgrades

Flying tonight, family of 4 across 3 reservations. I booked these a year ago and can’t remember the exact reason they were split but it was in order to use a discount or credit. The agent told me it was fine to have my 6 year old on his own and that the reservations are linked. Cut to today, to our surprise as a silver I got upgraded 48 hours out and my husband and younger son are 3/4 on what looks like 10 seats available. And even more shocking is that there are only 4 ppl on the list yet 13 waiting for seat assignments! This is a leisure flight so maybe groups of four can’t be added to the upgrade list ?

I hope that my son will be flagged before they assign those 13 seats? This happened before with a prem Econ upgrade and they called us up but this flight seems overbooked so I want to double check the process

Is there a point in calling to get him on the waitlist as my companion?

Thanks
