Sydney Metro M1 Weekday Peak back to 4 minutes Headway

From today 17th August 2026, M1 Weekday Peak has reverted back to the standard 4 minutes Headway with 15 trains per hour (tph) in each direction, Tallawong to Sydenham with 30 trains in use.

Since 13th April, M1 Weekday Peaks (excludes Public Holidays) has operated to either:

- 3.75 minute Headway with 16 tph/each direction, total 32 trains. This was in operation from 13th to 17th April & then 15th June to 14th August 2026; excluding weekends & public holidays.

- 3.5 minute Headway with 17 tph/each direction, total 33 trains. This was in operation from 20th April to 12th June 2026; includes Vivid event but excluding weekend & public holidays.

When Sydenham to Bankstown section opens, the Weekday Peak headway will remain 4 minutes with 21 tph each direction, total 42 trains. It won't be possible to run 3.75 or 3.5 min headways across the entire line unless more Metropolis sets are purchased.

Metropolis Set 28 returns to passenger service

For the train buffs, Sydney Metro's Metropolis Set 28 has returned to passenger service after its long stint as test train on the Sydenham to Bankstown section. Set 28 was the first train into the CBD section and under the harbour in 2023 and first metro train to Bankstown in 2025.

Today, Set 28 did a Tallawong - Sydenham - Tallawong trip in the AM Peak on Run 122 where it was replaced by Set 9 from Run 107 during the AM wind down period and returned to Rouse Hill Train Facility for a day nap.

In the PM Peak, it worked Run 136 and did another Tallawong - Sydenham - Tallawong trip before stabling for the evening.

No Metro timetable or real time feed is available for Metro today, 17th June 2026.

Second time this month this has happened, most likely due to the special timetables issued for Vivid for the past few weeks and an incorrect "standard" timetable has been published into GTFS today.

Bought a Single Trip Ticket today at Wynyard (Astreo machine A-022) for memento purposes. Was issued with ticket with nothing printed on it. 😐

It appears to have been encoded properly as the gates accepted it, but would it run fowl of Transport Officers if inspection visually? 🤔

Also discovered that you can reverse tap on a single trip ticket.
