I’m currently rebuilding a Sofim 8140.47 (Fiat Ducato 1994 2.5 TDI).

It’s my first rebuild, so I’m feeling a bit unsure.

When I opened up the engine, one cylinder looked like this. The others do not have this defect.

There are 5 small ‘dents’ and the running surface is slightly worn on just one side. The other side looks fine.

I’m going to pull out the pistons and have a look at them. Can I continue using them as they are, or do I need to get new pistons and bore them out to a larger size?

What do you think is the reason for this?
