Equine Pre-Purchase Exam + Xrays Result Opinion
Hey Reddit, in lamiem terms could someone please explain/their thoughts on the below? The horse is a 15yo WB x Clydie, currently in compeitive full work, jumping 130cm. Just a summary of parts of the report below.
Thanks!
Radiographic Findings:
Right fore foot: Large central lucency lateral body of the navicular bone (additional
radiographs would provide a better characterization of the lesion > upright pedal oblique views)– considered high risk as the cause of current or future lameness. There are other
subtle pathologic changes within the navicular bone including modelling of the proximal
border and distal border lucencies.
Summary:
The horse was found to have a mild right forelimb lameness which when interpreted with the
radiographic findings in the right fore associated with the navicular bone and pastern make the
horse a high risk for ongoing and future lameness. Further information could be gained with
additional imaging either lower limb CT or additional radiographs.
The other pathologic findings noted above are all within the low to moderate risk categories for
causing a clinical lameness.
Given the high risk rating this horse should be considered a high-risk purchase with the likelihood of future lameness and making future sales likely high risk as well.
