Aerial Gatekeeping?

Hey all! This is my first experience with this, I’m wondering how common it is or just some thoughts on this.

I’ve been doing aerial fabric for five years, and trained other apparatuses more recently. I reached out for a private at a studio with an apparatus that I have experience with but am eager to learn more (they teach regular classes for this as well). I got denied to (verbatim) prevent from copying their curriculum. I mentioned I was a coach while introducing myself but maybe that set them off. I’m honestly really surprised because I’ve been with a studio that has coaches and students that may go to multiple aerial gyms, and everybody is welcomed. Coaches have worked hard learning different new apparatus to compete and perform with, and generally share it with fellow coaches or aerialist, in classes and workshops. Now I’m not saying you have to immediately teach your new routine to the whole world; I’m just a little surprised that a private for an hour would be denied like that?

Like I’m sure there are times that curriculum stealing would be an issue, and maybe I shouldn’t have said I teach but like 1) how could I gain the whole curriculum from one private? 2) yes I’m a coach but there’s still so much for me to learn, so how do you request to learn from other studios without it seeming like I’m scheming to steal lesson plans.

Title explains it all, but I adore this apparatus, it’s like trapezes for days! I’ve reached out to some studios that have it for a fabricator, but most posts are so old I don’t get a response. Anyone here know an equipment manufacturer that can make this?
