Went for a 3, came home with a 2X

Started the process thinking I’d get an Enduro 3 but then started to look at the Instinct. Laboured over the Solar v AMOLED - and got great guidance from this community - before settling on the Solar 50mm. Walked into the store and….

The 2X was almost half the “on sale” price of the 3. Wasn’t even on my radar and I had to make peace with the red panels on the dial. But it’s a tool not a fashion statement. And while I realise the battery ain’t the same, I’m thinking if I’m relying on that much battery I’ve got bigger problems.

Had a Fenix 5 for years until it gave up, but hadn’t really realised how much I’d missed it until I had this one on wrist for a hike yesterday.

For the price, if/when something really compelling comes up I can jump to it with no remorse. Happy with the outcome!

Instinct 3 on Sale (Australia)

Been labouring over which, whether and when to buy an Instinct 3. Went down the rabbit hole of the Enduro 3 (or 4) but decided the features of the Instinct are the best fit for me (4 days off grid at a time, established tracks, recreational hiker plus gym & paddling). 19cm/7.5” wrist so either the 45mm or the 50mm is do-able.

I love the Sunburst and with ageing eyes the 50mm probably works best: $829 for the MIP/solar (AUD). Waiting for the upcoming release event to make sure there’s no new options.

But then…

This morning I’m walking up to sale prices on the black versions across the range. $779 for 50mm AMOLED, $679 for the 45mm AMOLED, $679 for the 50mm MIP. $579 for the 45mm MIP for the record, but it’s not on my radar.

I’m not hung up on the colour but I do prefer it. Push come to shove, $150 is $150. So I have a dilemma… 50mm MIP or 45mm AMOLED for the same price, or 50mm AMOLED for $100 more.

What say ye community? After real world advice in the practicality of the 45mm AMOLED for old eyes outdoors, the value of the 50mm AMOLED in terms of extra screen size and battery, or just stay with the 50mm MIP but in the black…
