30F, 27M Deciding between long distance, serious compromise or breaking up. Are we insane for this might work?
I 30F have been dating my boyfriend 27M for three years. We met while both on active duty for the military. I’ve known since I met him that he wanted to be in federal law enforcement. Over the last year he was in the process of getting hired to a federal law enforcement job and got out of the military. Neither one of us knew how the process would turn out and I have stayed active duty as I have two kids from a previous marriage and the military has provided us a comfortable life. Now I am two months away from moving due to military obligations and my boyfriend was planning g to move with us. He just received his final offer from a federal law enforcement agency that will take him half way across the country. We’ve talked about getting married, and having more kids. Now we don’t know what to do. We can’t possibly have that life while he’s assigned half way across the country and it’s too late for me to change my orders. I’m at a loss for what to do. I’m not sure we can make living in two different states work for 3 years but if he gives up the job he’s giving up on his dream job. How do we go about this without completely destroying our relationship?
