So I (F) used to talk to this guy and things were going really well at first. We were consistently texting and there was interest on both sides, but around early January it kind of faded out.

The main issue is on me—I was really busy with school at the time and I started replying kinda dry and inconsistent. He was still trying though. He would say things like “let me know when you’re free” and try to make plans, but I didn’t really communicate properly that I was just overwhelmed, I kind of just kept pushing it off. Eventually we just stopped talking.

A couple months went by with no contact. I did text him once on iMessage recently but he didn’t respond, so I assumed it was just done.

Recently though, he posted his birthday post and I commented happy birthday. He replied and we had a small conversation after that. It wasn’t deep, but he was responding. I thought maybe there was still some type of connection there.

After that, I replied to one of his Instagram notes and he actually responded again, but then didn’t continue the conversation after I replied back. Since then, nothing again.

Now I feel confused because part of me thinks I already messed it up by being inconsistent before, and maybe he’s just over it or talking to someone else now. But another part of me feels like there’s still small signs of interaction, just not enough to really tell.

I don’t want to come off desperate by texting him again on iMessage when he already didn’t respond before, but I also don’t want to just assume it’s completely done if there’s still a chance to talk again.

Should I just leave it alone, or is there a way to reach out one more time without overdoing it?
