Tour availability tracking how does it actually work?

I understand that operators set dates, time slots, and group capacity in a booking system, then connect that inventory to places where the tour is listed. Where I get stuck is how a booking on one channel updates the others in real time, especially with 12 seats and only 3 left. Could someone explain it with a practical example?

Why do some tours stay fully booked while almost identical ones sit empty?

I've been doing a bit of competitor stalking lately (for research purposes obviously lol) and noticed something I can't really explain.

I'll find two tours in the same city, similar route, similar duration, roughly the same price... and one seems to be constantly getting bookings while the other looks completely dead.

At first I assumed it was price but the cheapest tours aren't always the busiest. So now I'm wondering what actually creates that difference. Reviews? Better photos? How long the listing has been around? The title? More availability? Or does getting those first bookings basically create momentum that makes everything easier afterward?

What reliable tools for tracking tour and travel commission are good?

This season I've been running more tours than ever and my commission tracking has completely gotten out of hand
Every operator I asked seems to do things differently talking on percentages, payment schedules, some based on net, some on gross. Some commissions come quickly, others show up months later.
The frustrating part is I feel like I spend more time figuring out who owes me what than actually focusing on clients. I recently opened an older booking and realized I had never properly tracked the commission, so I had to dig through confirmations and payments to piece everything together.
I’m hesitant to jump into something complicated that still requires a lot of manual work behind the scenes.
For those of you working with multiple tour operators and suppliers, what are you actually using to track commissions?

Solo tour guide here how to get more clients

Been doing private walking tours in Quebec for the last year as a one person thing and now it's super up and down. some weeks are full, other weeks are just empty and I'm lowkey stressing.

Right now most of my bookings come from ads and one small listing on a local site. i don't really know what to do next. should i join those big tour platforms and give them a big cut or try to push my own thing on socials and hope it works longterm also not sure if i should change my prices to look more premium or keep them low to get more people in.

Anyone here who works as a guide or does similar service work, what actually helped you get more consistent clients without burning out or feeling like you're just spamming everywhere?
