Izuku Midoriya and his twin sister, Izumi, grew up incredibly close, raised by their single mom, Inko, after their parents split. But as they got older, they drifted in completely different directions. Izumi slipped easily into the world of popularity and social status, while Izuku stayed the same earnest, awkward kid who never quite fit in. Embarrassed by how different they’d become, Izumi slowly pulled away from him.
Everything comes to a head on their first day of high school when Izumi begs Izuku not to embarrass her. The pressure completely unravels him, as he overthinks every move, panics, and ends up acting even more awkward than usual. Izumi, mortified, cuts him off entirely at school, leaving him isolated and cementing his reputation as the class outcast.
Then comes the breaking point: a humiliating public incident that wipes out whatever dignity Izuku had left. But instead of giving up, he hits a moment of clarity. He decides he’s done living in fear of other people’s opinions. Slowly, quietly, he rebuilds himself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The anxious, people-pleasing kid fades, replaced by someone disciplined, grounded, and unexpectedly confident.
By the time everyone notices, including Izumi, Izuku’s transformation is undeniable. His glow-up doesn’t just shock the school; it forces his sister to confront the brother she pushed away and the person he’s become without her.
