Just One Day.

This is my first real "story" I've posted here. I tried to capture the mood and feel of my most recent playthrough of the Heist. But I also wanted it to feel different from the same old story. I hope I succeeded with the narration. Thanks for reading this!

Public Medical Care in Night City: A bit of a long thought experiment to illustrate a point on scarcity...

This is an outgrowth of a discussion I was having in another thread, about the availability of health care in Night City.

I thought I would do some digging on numbers, and provide in a fashion that helps illustrate my perspective on how difficult it is to get health care in NC on a timely and available basis.

Night City as of 2045 has a population of around 7 million people.

In the core book, there are only four hospitals mentioned:

  • Rocklin Agumentics Campus Hospital (private hospital)
  • Trauma Team Tower (private hospital)
  • City Medical Center (public)
  • Crisis Medical Center (public)

Of these four, only two are public hospitals, and in the continuity, the Bozo Civil War results in Crisis Medical Center being bombed. The status of Crisis Medical Center to remain operation is left unspoken, but given that it already had problems with flooding and structural integrity, and being in the middle of the Combat Zone, it is not a leap to at least ascertain that it is no longer operating at peak capacity, if it ever was.

Night City 2045 establishes four more hospitals in the city.

  • Hiroto Miyamoto Memorial Clinic (semi-private, for the residents of Kabuki only)
  • COG Treatment Facility (NORCAL military only)
  • Kosmos Hospital (Private, serves the wealthy only)
  • Madam Yap's (Private, wealthy and Weng Fang Tong only)

So this means out of the eight hospitals in Night City, only two are really open to the public, and one is possible no longer operational, depending on campaign events.

I'm going to be generous and include Hiroto Clinic as a place of medical care available to the public, even though it's limited to the residents of Kabuki. So let's say, there's three publicly available hospitals at best case scenario.

According to the Becker Hospital Review, the largest metropolitan hospitals in the modern United Stats have a patient capacity of 1657 patients per day. I'll be generous and use that as the baseline for the Night City equivalents. With three possible facilities available for public health care, that means 4,971 maximum possible patients can receive publicly available medical care per day in Night City.

According the to US Health System Review in HealthSystemFacts.org, approximately 89% of Americans over quarterly intervals are reportedly in good health, with 2% reported in poor health, and the remaining 9% reported as in fair health but requiring some medical consultation. If we use these percentage ratios as a baseline to determine how many Night Citizens would be seeking medical care per day in Night City, we determine the following:

That 2% of the population of 7 million might be in dire need of medical care on any given day, which comes out to 140,000 potential patients in emergency need of medical care per day.

That 9% of the population of 7 million might be in non-emergency need of medical assistance on any given day, which comes out to 630,000 potential patients in need of medical assistance on a given day.

If even just 1% of these potential patients just happened to require medical care on a given day, that comes out to 7,700 patients per day. Whereas Night City's public hospitals can only accommodate 4,971 per day.

That means there is a statistical likelihood that 2,729 out of 7,700 patients will not receive medical care per day, on their day of need. They will have to defer or wait for treatment on subsequent days of availability. If we presume a fatality or treatment rate of one out of two patients needing only one day of medical care, the carry-over will still compound with new patients per day, so that the numbers of patients waiting on medical care will continually accrue each day.

Now I am not an accountant, and consider myself to be very rusty with math, so I had to seek assistance from an AI helper in determining the following (please take this as a very general spread):

Daily Accumulation Rate The number of patients added to the waiting list each day is the difference between new arrivals and daily treatment capacity: Daily Accumulation=7,700−4,971=2,729 patients/day

Total Waiting Patients at End of Year Assuming the system starts with zero waiting patients and operates at this constant deficit for 365 days, the total number of patients waiting at the end of the year is: Total Waiting=2,729×365=996,085 patients

Longest Waiting Time In a standard First-In-First-Out (FIFO) queue scenario:

The patients treated on any given day are those who arrived earliest. Since the hospitals treats 4,971 patients per day but receives 7,700, it never clears the daily intake, let alone previous backlogs.

The longest waiting patient at the end of the year is someone from the very first day of the period who has not yet been called in.

To find exactly how long they have waited:

  • Total cumulative demand over 365 days: 7,700×365=2,810,500 patients.
  • Total cumulative capacity over 365 days: 4,971×365=1,814,415 patients.
  • The hospital treats the first 1,814,415 patients who arrived.
  • We determine how many full days of arrivals represent the treated volume:
    7,700 1,814,415
  • ≈235.64 days This means the hospital has completely cleared the waiting lists from the first 235 days, and part of the 236th day.
  • The patients currently waiting are those who arrived from Day 236 through Day 365.
  • The longest-waiting patient currently in the queue arrived at the beginning of Day 236.
  • Time elapsed since the beginning of Day 236 until the end of Day 365: 365−236+1=130 days (Note: If counting strictly by 24-hour periods from the start of Day 236 to the end of Day 365, the wait is approximately 129.6 days).

Conclusion:

Total patients waiting: 996,085

Longest wait time: Approximately 130 days

I realize that my scenario and presentation are somewhat clumsy, but I hope I have adequately illustrated WHY Night City's public health care system is an absolute mess, and any citizens who can afford Trauma Team or REO Meatwagon, will absolutely subscribe to those services if available.

In addition I am going to leave this presentation with an excerpt from Night City 2045's commentary on Night City Health Care. I hope it also illustrates the demand and situation of scarcity for medical care in Night City.

New Masc-V: Vincent Han & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day At All Foods

Hey all! I know most posts tend to be ongoing stories, but since I started a new playthru, I couldn't find my creative stride until I hit the Pick-Up and prepared for the All Foods mission. I think this might have some staying power, and I might try more with this V if people like this fellow.

So the last time I did a serious male V playthrough was shortly after launch. I've been mostly enjoying Fem-V and hadn't really put much serious effort into making a Masc-V ever since then.

But I got the itch to really try something new, inspired by the look of Manhua and Manga protagonists, I think I came up with one that I am really happy with. I'd like to share and get some feedback, since we rarely see excellent mods for Masc-V, I thought I could showcase what good things I've found.

Cyberpunk RED Campaign LF New Player

Hey out there Edgerunners!

I've got a long-term campaign that has been running for many years, since April of 2022. Since that time, I've had a fairly steady and regular group of players, although normal gamer attrition has meant the original Crew has long since retired or perished. But now Real-Life has claimed a couple of my long-playing cast members, and I am considering options to fill at least one of those seats.

I'm looking for someone experienced with the system, preferably a veteran player over the age of thirty. No shade on Gen-Z, I just need someone with the mixture of maturity and consistent work-life balance that college students and younger post-graduates simply haven't the chance to gain yet. Likewise, I need someone I can ease in with a minimum of introduction to the system and setting.

My campaign has the consistent theme of being focused around the activities of the Orange Orchard, one self-contained community neighborhood in the Watson Redevelopment District, consisting of households of both working class and office professionals. The community is a collaborative investment by an alliance of Italian Mafia and Chinese Triads, working from behind the scenes to create their own little enclave of organized crime, a stronghold of political and criminal influence that is their powerbase over Watson and other parts of Night City. Characters playing have an invested interest in this neighborhood, in keeping it stable and the existing powerbase firmly in control.

Character concepts should be capable of working with criminal elements in a hierarchal structure, and comfortable with situations and environments that take place higher than Street Level, in between the violent ecosystem of cutthroat Boostergangs and Corporate power structure. Ideally, background or familial connections with either the Mafia or the Triads would be preferred, as those are the two crime families that the characters are situated in. Some level of media literacy and familiarity with Hollywood and real-life organized crime structure and culture would be a plus.

We play in our own Discord Server, have dedicated bots for game scheduling, money tracking, IP tracking, and dice rolling, as well as utilizing Roll20 and Foundry for VTT situations. Our normal game schedule is every Wednesday, from 10 AM to 2 PM Pacific Time. We have players from timezones as varied as West Coast US, East Coast US, and the EU.

We are LGBT friendly, and have also welcomed Cyberpunk Exotics in past characters as well. It is a mature content game however, and as such we ask that those with sensitivities to themes of violence, sexual exploitation, and extremist politics to keep in mind the separation between IC and OOC, and leave any content restrictions or objections at the door. If you are seeking a PG-rated game environment, this is probably not a suitable campaign to your tastes.

If all of this strikes your interest, and you are available to play during the scheduled times, please feel free to send me a direct message via Reddit, and let me know when you might be available for a voice chat over Discord.

LF Cyberpunk RED API's and tools

Hi, I just recently upgraded my Roll20 sub to Pro for purposes of running my Cyberpunk RED games, and I'd like to find some quality of life tools and API integrations specifically for the CP RED system, such as the Tarot Deck damage results, the new Solo of Fortune Range Tables, and so forth.

Does anyone know of and can recommend any to integrate into the Roll20 VTT that are must-haves?
