Appreciation of physical media
So recently a few people have posted their physical Kotor collections. And with the decline and recent announcements of the future state of certain consoles, I thought I wanted to share you guys my appreciation for physical media. I recently acquired these to my collection. I only had Kotor 2 growing up but I lost it. My collection spans from n64 all the way up to modern systems. But this jewelcase of Kotor 1 is definitely my favourite. As I understand it was originally part of a Big Box version of the game, which was the very first pc release. Wish I had the box for sure.
What I particularly love about both of these, is that they don't even have a cd key for installation. They work just like they did over 20 years ago when they first released. Well almost since the updater can't connect to any server. But regardless they are functional. I intend to replay these games without any mods for pure nostalgia ( maybe down the road I'll regret that lol)
I get that online platforms are more convenient and the future. I'm not necessarily here to make a statement. It's definitely a lot easier to just download a 4 GB game in a few minutes, than a 4 disc install through an external USB cd drive lol.
But I guess I finally understand why my father for example loved his Vinyl, and the process of taking out the media, the record player, adjusting the sound carefully, and just enjoy it like he did many years ago. It takes us back to a simpler time, which is also a term I finally can understand.
