Coffee Estates, Peacocks and 35K Points for 5 Nights: Our Tapovan by Marriott, Sakleshpur Experience

Stayed 5 nights at Tapovan by Ferns (Series by Marriott) in Sakleshpur for just 35,000 Marriott points. Here's how it went.

Earlier this month, we escaped to Sakleshpur for a workation.

Instead of alarms, we woke up to birds chirping. Every morning, we'd pull back the curtains to see mist rolling over coffee plantations while peacocks casually wandered around the property. That alone made the redemption feel worth it.

We booked Tapovan by Ferns back in February, shortly after Marriott added it to the Series by Marriott collection.

At the time, it was an absolute sweet spot:

  • 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for 4 nights
  • 5th night free with Marriott's Stay for 5, Pay for 4 benefit

We booked immediately, posted about it, and quite a few people messaged saying they'd booked it too. If you were one of them, here's what to expect.

The Property

The resort is about 30 minutes from Sakleshpur town, tucked away in a quiet valley surrounded by coffee estates.

It isn't a massive resort, but the campus is surprisingly spacious. There are walking paths, viewpoints, benches overlooking the valley, and plenty of peaceful corners to simply sit and do nothing.

The rooms are comfortable and spacious.

Just set your expectations correctly. Since this is an acquired property rather than one purpose-built by Marriott, it doesn't have the polished feel of a typical luxury Marriott resort.

The Highlight: The Views

The infinity pool is easily the best part of the property.

It overlooks coffee plantations stretching into the hills, and one afternoon we spotted peacocks casually roaming below while relaxing in the pool.

That was one of those moments where we looked at each other and thought:

"Yep... this is exactly why we travel."

There's also a viewpoint inside the property that offers panoramic views across Sakleshpur and is probably beautiful during sunset if the weather cooperates.

The Workation Experience

Our routine became surprisingly simple.

Work during the day.

Close the laptop in the evening.

Walk around the property.

Play board games.

Watch the mist roll in.

It was one of those rare trips where doing almost nothing felt incredibly satisfying.

The Food

Probably the weakest part of the stay.

It's not bad... just average.

For a property in such a beautiful location, the food could definitely be much better.

Fortunately, Sakleshpur has some fantastic local places.

1. Durgashree Mess

A simple family-run restaurant known for:

  • Mutton donne biryani
  • Andhra chilli chicken
  • Chicken fry

We absolutely loved it.

The donne biryani is quite different from Bangalore's version: less spicy but incredibly aromatic and flavourful. It tasted much more homemade than restaurant-style.

2. Gandharva Bar & Restaurant

Almost everyone recommended one dish:

Mutton Pepper Fry.

They were absolutely right.

It was excellent.

We also tried chicken kadhai with akki roti, which was fairly average. If you visit, stick to the mutton.

What We Missed

We had planned to explore nearby attractions, especially Manjarabad Fort.

Unfortunately, it rained almost continuously during our stay.

Instead of forcing sightseeing, we embraced the staycation vibe, which honestly suited the destination perfectly.

Would We Recommend It?

For 35,000 Marriott points for 5 nights?

Absolutely.

No, it isn't a perfect Marriott resort.

But if you're looking for a peaceful getaway or workation within driving distance of Bangalore, it's a fantastic redemption when the pricing is right.

Would we return?

Yes, especially if the points pricing stays attractive.

We'd just plan on eating a few meals outside the resort... and hopefully finally make it to Manjarabad Fort next time.

Anyone else here stayed at Tapovan after it joined Marriott? Curious to know if your experience matched ours.

Coffee Estates, Peacocks and 35K Points for 5 Nights: Our Tapovan by Marriott, Sakleshpur Experience

Earlier this month, we snuck away to Sakleshpur for a “workation”.

We woke up to bird calls instead of alarms, and the first thing we saw when we pulled the curtains was mist over coffee estates and peacocks casually walking around the campus. That alone made the points feel well spent.

We booked Tapovan by Ferns in February, which Marriott acquired last year and slotted into their “Series by Marriott” collection.

Back then, Marriott had this insane sweet spot: 35,000 points for 4 nights + 5th night free under the 4+1 offer.

We booked it instantly.

We even posted about it and a bunch of you DMed saying you booked it too. If you did, this is what you signed up for. 👇

Tapovan is about half an hour from Sakleshpur town, tucked into a valley and wrapped in dense green.

It’s not a huge property in terms of rooms, but the campus is surprisingly spread out. Plenty of space to walk around, sit on random benches and look at the clouds passing by.

The rooms are nice and spacious. Just go in with the right expectations: this is an acquired resort, not a built-from-scratch Marriott, so don’t compare it to your typical luxury Marriott resorts.

Where Tapovan really flexes is the view.

The infinity pool sits on the edge of the valley, looking straight at coffee plantations and hills in the distance. One afternoon, we were just lazing in the pool and spotted peacocks casually roaming through the coffee plants below.

That was the moment we both thought, “Okay, this is why we travel.”

There’s also a viewpoint on the property that gives you a wide sweep of Sakleshpur from a higher altitude. Great for sunsets if the weather is clear.

Most of our days were simple: work from the room during the day, then shut the laptop, wander around the campus, play board games, and just… be offline without feeling guilty.

Now, the honest bit: the food.

It’s… fine. Not bad, not great. Just okay. For a property in a location like this, they can definitely do better. If you go with basic expectations, you’ll be alright, but don’t check in expecting a culinary revelation.

Because we weren’t fully satisfied with the resort food, we ventured out twice to try places that had been on our Sakleshpur list:

1️⃣ Durgashree Mess
A humble, family-run place that’s famous locally for its mutton donne biryani, Andhra chilli chicken and chicken fry.

We loved it.

The donne biryani is very different from the versions we’ve eaten in Bangalore. Less hot and spicy, but super aromatic and flavourful. It feels like something a home cook would make if they were showing off (in a good way).

2️⃣ Gandharva Bar & Restaurant
Everyone told us: “Go for the mutton pepper fry.”
They were right.

The mutton pepper fry was excellent, that perfect balance of heat, pepper, and fat. We also tried a chicken kadhai with akki roti, which was just average. If you go, focus on the mutton.

We had grand plans to trek around, including visiting Manjarabad Fort, but Sakleshpur had other ideas. It rained pretty much non-stop, so we shelved the treks for another trip and leaned into the staycation vibe instead.

Was it worth it?

For 35,000 points + a free 5th night, in a quiet valley, with those pool views and peacocks… yes.

It’s not a “perfect” Marriott, but as a workation / staycation spot near Bangalore, at that price point, it worked really well for us.

Would we go back?
Yes (if we find a good deal), but we’d still step out for our meals. And we owe Manjarabad Fort a visit when the rain gods calm down.

If you’re planning a Sakleshpur break and are sitting on Marriott points, Tapovan is one of those redemptions that feels like you’ve outsmarted the cash rates a little.

HSBC Live+ Gets Revised From 26 July 2026, But Is It Still Worth It? 🤔

HSBC Live+ Gets Revised From 26 July 2026 – But Is It Still Worth It? 🤔

HSBC has announced a few changes to the HSBC Live+ Credit Card, effective 26 July 2026.

Here’s what changes:

✅ 1. Lower Forex Markup
Forex markup drops from 3.5% → 1.99% on international spends.

❌ But the 1.5% cashback on international transactions is being removed, so the overall impact is minimal.

❌ 2. Lounge Access Devalued
Complimentary airport lounge access is now limited to:

2 domestic lounge visits per calendar year
Maximum 1 visit every 6 months

A clear downgrade from the earlier benefit.

❌ 3. More Cashback Exclusions
These categories will no longer earn cashback:

🏥 Hospitals (MCC 8062)
🚌 Local Transportation / Bus / Subway Transit (MCC 4111)

Verdict 👇

Despite these revisions, HSBC Live+ remains one of the best cashback credit cards in India:

👉10% cashback on dining, food delivery, grocery spends
🔹Upto ₹1,000 cashback per billing cycle

Joining fee: 999 + GST
Renewal fee: 999 + GST
🔹waived off on spending ₹2L
