Dream Air review from Super OLED

Having now a couple days with the Dream Air SLAM, as well as using with Sboys3 driver, I feel in a good place to provide an honest review.

The TLDR is: I will probably look into selling my Super 50 and OLED.

The mechanics: The weight alone is enough to make this my primary set. I feel at times that some try to justify the “modability” of the Super in terms of being able to balance easier, or the Studioform straps, etc. But the reality is, it is a heavy headset. Even with the OLED, which does reduce the weight, its heavy. This invariably leads to the headset swinging with head turns due to momentum, most pronounced in racing sim. This does not exist for me with the Dream Air.

The face gasket sucks, for sure. But being able to place it on a halo strap (I am using a Bobo) lets me seat it on my face perfectly, with minimal added weight. I am looking into finding someone (any takers?) to print the Zeeflyboy face gasket and AVP strap adapters to trial them, but am waiting on the Studioform face gasket as well.

Setup and software: No issues, connects right without a problem. Did not delete anything or do a clean install with using my Super. It was simply plug and play. And given that each headset uses its own drivers on installation as well, there should be no issues that forces a clean install. The Pimax EVO has been working without a problem, which leads me to my next source of compliments

Sboys3 Driver: Simply put, this is incredible. In MSFS 2024, of which I already run with a 5090, it essentially has eliminated any stutters and is silky smooth. I turn off motion smoothing in SteamVR if flying prop planes since the motion interpolation creates a lot of artifact, but the increase in FOV and smoothness is astounding. This is full 90hz, no frame cap. Mostly high settings, some ultra, foveated render set to 30 for MSFS. Iracing performs similar.

Audio: I use DMAS on the Super. Surprisingly, the Dream air audio is very acceptable, and though I do not have it directly in ear and the depth I get from DMAS, it is not anywhere near a reduction enough for me to miss the DMAS, at least as of yet. The pros of the headset are too much to cry about losing the DMAS. Really hoping that the DMAS halo strap comes out soon.

Regarding the ordering, it came in 2 days. Pimax, if you are seeing this, I see a lot of conflicting info on Reddit and your own site regarding discounts and DMAS headstrap bundles and discount. I received no offer or notification for either, but if there is a way to still offer or honor the 50% DMAS strap credit please let me know, and hopefully release it soon.

The FOV loss compared to the Super 50 ppd is noticeable, but not egregiously so, and certainly not enough for me to give up the color and clarity fidelity I get from the OLED.

In summary, so far so good, far exceeding expectations. Hoping to get the DMAS from Pimax soon, and will likely look into selling the 50 PPD and OLED super modules.

immediate shipping?!

have super 50 ppd and the micro-oled, but want to see if the dream air slam just fits and feels better for me. ordered it yesterday, got shipping notice today, and will be here tomorrow.

just have to say i'm a little shocked since my 50 originally took months, and oled long too. guess supply is up?

super OLED vs dream air eye relief

currrntly have 50 ppd and OLED, and honestly feel like i'm going to switch back to the 50. I just can't seem to get my eyes close enough to minimize glare and hit the sweet spot with the OLED without the top of my brow/nasal bridge/orbit actually hitting the inside portion of the lens ridges, preventing me from getting closer, not to mention preventing eye tracking from working at that distance

for those that have tried both the super OLED and the dream air, does the air have better relief and allow for closer fit? debating seeing if pimax will let me use to oled module as credit toward the air
