Could they be even more upset?

Maybe when the Getty and Andersen lawsuits with AI companies are over and AI will win the cases. Getty dropped "stealing" claims already and Andersen claimed "trade dress infringement", so that their true statement "our styles were copied" looked legitimate in court.

Can AI Come Up With Original Ideas?

People moving goalposts about what is original idea or creativity because they dont want to lose the "specialness", lots of people build their identities on this "specialness".

Creativity is a very similar process as what deep blue did with finding good chess moves or when alpha go came up with brilliant and novel go moves. Creativity is just a sophisticated phase space exploration algorithm that considers combinations of disparate information and ideas, and then iterates over that set to consider the quality of the idea. The human brain likely speeds up this process with a smart heuristic where relevant or prioritized information is considered more frequently vs totally random combinations. Creativity isn't magic, it's just a sophisticated exploration process of existing information

AI criticism

Job loss. There should be job protections for workers so they wouldnt be fired just because company need more profit. Doesnt mean people cant be fired if they are bad at their job.

Data centers. Its not problem of datacenters but build zoning laws(whatever it called, where you can bulid) and corruption of people.

AI "stealing". Misuderstanding of copyright law. Company should be punished for piracy, but demand for "owning a style" lead to more power for corporations.

Why people against pattern recognition?

In AI and generally.

It is the foundation of human intelligence, allowing us to rapidly identify faces, learn languages, navigate daily life, and make predictions based on past experiences.

Historically, pattern recognition was a vital survival mechanism. Early humans used it to track animals, avoid dangerous predators, and identify edible plants by looking at specific visual details like leaf color or paw prints.
