Color E Ink manufacturing conceptual question
From what I understand about full colour e ink panels like Spectra and Gallery, they have all the coloured particles mixed together in each microcup, which is what requires the long refresh cycles with a lot of flashing. I'm a molecular biologist and it sounds kind of like pulsed field gel electrophoresis where they switch the polarity back and forth to resolve different size/charge molecules, if I'm understanding the explanation of Spectra correctly.
My question is, why can't they manufacture panels with a single colour in each microcup? Is it too complicated to put different colour particles in adjacent cups? I'm curious as to how the manufacturing process actually works.
