DNA Test - IVDD

I just got back the results of my girl's DNA test and it seems my girl "has two copies of a variant in the FGF4 gene that’s associated with chondrodystrophy and an increased risk of Type I intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)".

I'm glad to know this before she's even a year old, so I can take as many preventative steps as possible... I've done a good bit of google research already, but I'd love to hear if anyone has any suggestions on ways I can help prevent her from ever having to deal with IVDD.

What I'm already doing:

  • Keeping her on a healthy diet so she stays lean and fit.
  • At least three walks a week that are 2 miles.
  • Steps so she doesn't have to jump down from the bed.
  • Harness instead of a collar whenever she's on a leash to reduce stress on her neck/spine.
