Planing to swap out my Tele bridge pickup to chase Johnny Greenwood’s tone. Is the JB Junior the right call?
I’ve got a Fender 50s Classic Telecaster (MIM) and I’m trying to get as close as possible to Jonny Greenwood’s bridge pickup tone, think the Dually Lace Sensor Red setup on his Tele Plus. I don’t want to reroute the body or replace the bridge, so I’m limited to a single-coil-sized pickup that drops straight into the stock bridge plate.
I’ve been looking at the Seymour Duncan JB Jr. for the Tele. It seems like the closest thing in that form factor without any modification.
My rig is a Boss Katana MkII with an original Marshall Shredmaster in the chain, so I’ve already got the gain side covered, I just need to move away from the pure single coil sound.
Is the JB Jr. for Tele the right pickup here, or is there something better suited to the Greenwood sound in that without needing to do too much work? Anyone actually installed one?
