I’ve been playing this game for about 3 years now, and every fortress I’ve built has had a problem with children becoming psychotic. Throwing tantrums and smashing things, or killing other dwarves. I’ve tried many times to figure out what is causing this, and I think I’ve cracked it.

I need to stop letting children haul refuse and corpses.

I use the same stockpile for both, and it’s causing the kids to acquire lots of trauma. Thus nearly all of them are throwing regular tantrums by the time they are 10. I adjusted the chore list for my current fortress, and it cut unhappiness by nearly a quarter within a year.

The complexity of this game continues to astound me.
