Help. Withdrew from MSOM last week but have signed the housing lease; MSOM said I may be responsible for it
Help. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
MSOM is a school that requires on-campus housing (living in their Meritus Commons apartment). I got accepted by them a while ago and was committed to attending there since I had only been on the waitlist for other schools. It was already May, and I did not think I would get out of the wl for other schools, so I applied for housing at MSOM, getting prepared to attend there. I signed the housing lease, but have not yet paid the deposit. Then last week, I accidentally got off WL for one of the schools and decided to attend there instead. I let the MSOM know, and they have rescinded my offer on the same day.
Pretty normal until this point, but today, the housing staff contacted me to ask me what I do with the housing lease. I said I cannot proceed with it since I am not attending MSOM anymore, and this is their response: "I will ask our committee if they will allow breaking of the lease. As it was signed and counter-signed, their approval is needed to break it. If there is an issue, I will be in touch as at that point, you may be responsible for the lease monies."
I do not know what to do at this point. I thought only those who are attending MSOM can live in their apartment? And I definitely cannot afford to pay the rent there while attending another school. I'm kind of panicking and stressed right now. Sorry about the long paragraphs. I asked the admissions office about this issue, and they have not yet responded to me. Does anyone know how I should do?
