Thoughts on language barrier in dating - weirdly beneficial???
I (23m) have just started seeing someone from hinge (23F) , and found out right before the first date that they weren’t fluent in English. I had thought they might not be as their home location wasn’t set to Dublin where we matched and they had a few grammar issues in their messages. They messaged me a hour before we met a warning that their English wasn’t good so I got a bit worried that they wouldn’t communicate as well in person as over text. When we met , there was a bit of language barrier at points but it actually went pretty well and after our 5 hour date we organised the next straight away and are on the 4th so far. What I’ve found is at least at this early stage , the language barrier has weirdly made things easier, it kinda gives an obvious point of awkwardness that distracts from the smaller stuff, in a way that makes neither of us feel bad as it’s more just circumstantial. I was just wondering how other people have found dealing with language barriers and how it affected your dating success ?
Edit: Should probably have included this, when they said their english wasnt good , its in the sense that germans say that, as in they are actually pretty good just not a native level. This isnt a google translate open on the table situation, its not understanding a word now and then and accents being a larger barrier than usual.
