We've built Fontalog, the world's biggest font database with over 3.5 million fonts

Today we are announcing Fontalog - the world's biggest font database!

What is it? Fontalog is a searchable, super-fast, free database of fonts, created by FontBase. You can search fonts by visual characteristics, the same way you can do in our SuperSearch: proportion, contrast, weight and xHeight. On every font page there are multiple similar fonts displayed along with foundry info and exact parameter numbers, which you can use to search even more fonts.

How did we do this? No AI was used to create this. We analyze each font added to FontBase locally using the opentype.js library. We render the text off-canvas and measure key characteristics: stroke width; difference between bold and thin strokes; the relation of "x" letter height to capital letters; width of the letters compared to height; "i" size compared to "w" size. From these calculated numbers, we then build weight, proportion, xHeight and contrast. We also analyze the font's naming table to retrieve the basic info like font name, foundry and style names. No fonts are uploaded to our servers in the process.

Fontalog is constantly expanding as there are new fonts released and added to the database. We will monitor the website for performance and add new features moving forward. And as always we are open to feedback on how we can improve it!

GSC not updated for 14 days, is that normal?

I'm only starting to do some SEO, so sorry if I am asking something stupid. But I have noticed that GSC shows last updated 14 days ago. Page traffic updated normally, website has visitors. Is that normal for GSC?

We've built easy font license compliance in FontBase

Hey, I'm Dominik, founder and developer of FontBase — a font manager built by a really small team from Ukraine.

For quite some time, we had requests about the ability to control the number of activations a font can have inside a team. Basically, most of the time, when you purchase a font it has a limited amount of seats it can be used at the same time. And so far there was almost no way to manage that. Only one font manager on the market could do that, but it required a complex setup and high cost.

So we have built Licensing in FontBase: https://fontba.se/features/licensing

Now you can create a license for any font you own, set the maximum allowed number of seats and an expiration date. Then you can monitor how many activations a font has inside your team. And when the maximum number of activations is reached, the font can not be activated anymore, unless someone deactivates it first.

TL;DR: Font foundries are happy.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about FontBase or Licensing.
