I am not gonna sugarcoat it. Two decades in Japan, and this is the worst it has been. The anti-foreigner anger and destain, the policy changes, the whole mindset shit is abruptly different this time. The misinformation BS is on a whole new level, it isn’t just about Japanese intestines being longer, it’s stuff they see posted about foreigners and shit online that isn’t even real. Even around people at work, the attitude is different now.

I can’t really just "go back home" wherever that is. I’m a resident here, current visa situation is fine. I have a family. And we have a decent life for now, but I’m seriously starting to worry. Don't even start with the Whataboutism crap, I’m just looking for options.

What are some things that foreign residents can do to prepare to stay safe, stable, and have options (whatever they may be) in Japan if things continue to get worse?

Edit: I guess I’m getting downvoted like mad, but to those who did reply with advices and perspective, THANK YOU. I’ve since found a couple modern leads to stuff that I like of like.

I’ve played some music over the years, I’m rather limited in my musical knowledge I’d say, and even more so in skill. I have gone my entire life not really understanding what jazz is or even like the sound of it.

Yet, a music teacher recently introduced me to how it is structured and the history and I was just fascinated by it all. The whole concept of the jazz standards, the cultural and social history and divisions, the improvisation aspects and sheer technical skill involved was just alluring and I spent the past half month just looking up YouTube videos on it all, trying to understand. It was so damn interesting.

But… I don’t. I just don’t "Get it." It just sounds so freaking random and chaotic, so dissonant that I don’t even enjoy listening to anything or I just get bored after a few minutes. I clearly don’t understand the design, the mode, the vibe or much anything at all. This is especially the case with the improvisation sections. I started with Bill Evans, and a bit of Miles Davis but I just don’t get it! I feel like an absolute moron and as if I am missing something, like I now have a galaxy of music and I don’t even have a stepping-off point to get a grasp of the planet I’m on now!

I feel like a lost, middle-aged child that is never going to even have the time to learn to enjoy it, and isn’t even knowledgeable enough to know if it is something that is a taste you grow into, or it just isn’t something I like.

I gotta ask, what on earth is going on with jazz and has anyone been in this spot? How the hell does anyone even start with the music?!
