Recently acquired the H9 and Small Stone to round out my modulation section.
Eventide H9 Max: You all know what it is haha, for me this is the second time I have bought one, previously I owned it for about a week before returning it. I don’t have a tonne of board space and I couldn’t find a delay sound I was happy enough with that could replace my memory lane jr. Fast forward a year and I picked up a good used deal and with some tweaks and trial and error found a delay I was happy with. An analog delay was the hold up for me, aside from that the pedal is fantastic, the reverbs are top notch and the pitch effects are super cool. I think this one will stay on the board for a while.
EHX Small Stone: I’ve tried a number of other phasers, the diamond phase, phase 90 and a deep phase. They all do the phase well but I couldn’t shake that feeling like it was a sheen on top of my guitar sound. I like the deep phase actually but couldn’t stand the folding like sound at the end of each cycle. The small stone comes as advertised, loads of phasey goodness. My only hesitation is the slight voltage drop as it’s engaged. Otherwise it’s definitely the phase for me, love the tonality and simplicity.
The drive section is up next for an upgrade, I love the hot cake and will likely keep it on the board for a while, but the sick as just isn’t cutting jt for me, it would seem Klons just aren’t my thing. Looking for suggestions on something new. I’ve always like the compression and drive of a tubescreamer but don’t care for the EQ of them. Maybe something dumble voiced? I mostly play indie soul/ surf/ and some country
Cheers!!
