So my friend is hosting a campgain in which im playing a fighter and we have free archetype enabled. We are close to reaching level 2 so I want to take the cavalier archetype and a Roc as my mount.

My questions are:

1. It says that a roc is level 16. Does that mean that I need to be level 16 to take it as my animal companion? If I can't take a roc do you have any other recommendations?

2. I couldn't find how many squares a huge mount occupied but it says it's reach and space is 15 feet. Is that a 3x3 space or something else.
