California - Transferring deceasd parent's car title to me. REG262 form
I'm working on getting my deceased parent's car title into my name. I sent in a lot of forms last month. I just recently got the forms sent back. One form needs another section filled out. No problem. But in addition to all the forms I already filled out, they sent another form they want me to fill out. That being the
'Vehicle/Vessel Transfer And Reassignment Form' REG262.
With the following instructions:
"Fill out and sign on REG 262. When you sign for previous owner, please countersign for passed reg owner"
I have no idea what this means!
There's a section for 'Bill of sale' plus section for Buyer and Seller. Which confuses me since this isn't a sale. So, what? Do I list my deceased parent as the seller and me as the buyer? Do I sign for my deceased parent? Should I just continue to bang my head against the wall in frustration?
