So I've been rereading Dragonball and something bothered me: in Tien and Goku's first fight, Tien blows up the arena and apparently the rules state that Goku will lose if he lands in the hole where the arena once was, even though he's still in the original boundary.

Fast forward to Goku vs. Piccolo Jr. and at one point Piccolo slams Goku into a crater in the arena, a crater deep enough that Goku is laying in the dirt below the arena. So, wouldn't that be a ring out based on the rules established in the last tournament?

I don't really understand how people are allowed to fly or levitate ABOVE the arena, even outside the boundary, but going BELOW the arena is forbidden?
