Backrooms Setlist For My Release Party!

Hello! I made a set full of internet music for my backrooms release party and want to talk about it/share with yall. It was a fun challenge, and I’m shocked at how well it came together. I’ve never made a mixtape where I cared about the song titles or had such a tight theme. Hyperpop, futurefunk, vaporwave, and citypop all sound great together, but I even managed to squeeze in the desert metal song Green Machine from …The Red Sun album, which obviously had to go at the end.

I like eclectic mixes, which felt perfect for the complex. The fact that many internet genres like all sound “out-of-time” to me really helped the upbeat dancey section still feel conceptual, even tho i focused on “concept” (the opening of KV-31, the sea, the red sun) only in the beginning and end.

Being able to add crazy bass music to represent the complex, that then leads to Sierra Ferrel’s folk song The Sea, followed by a hyper-consumption “give me everything you have” song by 100 Gecs was a blast for me as a musician. Besides, I think party mixes should have a bit of everything, cuz my friends all have different tastes.

I wish I could have fit “Starburst” in earlier, but it’s such a weird & energetic song that it’s tough to open with. Tho it’s a good way to signal the end

I hope yall enjoy! Lmk any recommendations, I might make a playlist for after the movie
