My Magnum Opis

I've been listening to head phones and computer speakers for decades. Years ago I bought a nice Def Tech setup running off a Denon AVR. Its great for movies but I wanted something different for music. I started experimenting with speaker builds late last year. All of those projects were intended to lead up to this pair of speakers that will take over the heavy lifting in my main system, consisting primarily of an 80s vintage Onkyo TX-860 and a Fluance RT85 with a Schiit Audio Mani II preamp.

I used the fantastic Satori 6.5" MW16P paired with the very honest and wide stage SEAS Prestige 27TBCD/GB with the DXT wave guide. These were mounted in a very special 23 liter sealed enclosure.

The enclosure consists of a highly figured Walnut front baffle cnc cut with offset speaker positioning. The remainder of the box consists of birdseye and figured maple. Wall thickness is a full 1", and with that I still added a cnc cut internal brace.

The custom crossover consists of a mix of Dayton Audio and Jantzen Audio components. I leveraged REW and VituixCAD for measurements and design.

Im still listening to these speakers and they have a few hours of play before they are fully broken in. But at this point they sound honest and full bodied and full range. My subs are certainly filling in below say 50hz, but these fronts aren't relying on the subs the way my old speakers were. The center stage kind of unexpectedly punches you in the nose. On Tool's Pneuma the drums are some how right in front of me. And yet, listening to Blade Runner Blues the room seems to widen.

Listening to Ghost Rider's Make Us Stonger just makes me want to crank it to 11!

Yosi Horikawa's Bubbles makes my head spin in the best way. 😁
