German Shepherd constantly throwing up.
My grandmas dog is a 6 year old German Shepherd. He’s neutered, and has never been diagnosed with any conditions prior to this, but has been to the vet about a year ago for a cat scratch on his eye, which they just told us would heal on its own. He can no longer see out of that eye, and also has what I believe are cataracts on the other eye, but he hasn’t been to the vet for that so I can’t say for certain. Basically, his eyesight is pretty bad.
He started throwing up about six months ago, and it started out just happening a couple times a week. He’s now throwing up multiple times a day, and has gotten noticeably skinnier. He went to the vet a few weeks ago and they diagnosed him with hookworms and gave him some medicine, but it didn’t help at all and he’s still throwing up. He went back and they said he had a stomach infection, and gave him more meds and that didn’t help either. He now takes eyedrops in his eye that my grandma ordered online, and has a pill that he takes for the stomach infection.
I just want to know if it’s common for a German Shepherd to throw up so much, and if there’s anything I could change about his lifestyle to help. They do feed him leftover human food everyday, he’s not around other animals besides our cat, he never goes anywhere but home. I don’t know the specific name of the medicine but I can find out when I get home from work.
I haven’t noticed a huge change in behavior, other than he doesn’t jump on people anymore, but that could be because his hips have been giving him some problems. I do know that is a common thing in German Shepherds, and I’m not worried about that. He is still playful, goofy, and energetic. So if anyone has any idea or suggestions for what I could try, I would really appreciate it. Thank you
