First run in 5 years
For context, I used to be a decent runner years ago, but I have since then done practically no physical exercise and gained 50+ pounds.
Recently, i've had this urge to get back into shape. This led me to try to run a 2.5K (abritrary distance i chose for some reason) today for the first time in years.
Result: 2.5K in 17:45 (by really pushing myself)
I have mixed feelings about this result. Part of me is proud to have finally gotten up from the couch and completed this run while another part seems disappointed at how hard it was to accomplish a fraction of what I could do years ago. I know this is stupid because my body is not remotely in the same condition it was back then but I still feel that way
Rant over. What I need is good advice on how to proceed next. I finally have the motivation and I don’t want to lose it again, so I feel like I should act fast. However, I’m not really sure what I should be focusing on first.
In your opinion, what is the key when starting out? Distance? Consistency? Pace? People who were in similar situations, what methods worked for you?
Any input would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!
