Waiting For The Sun album...

I'm new to the site bit have been a fan of the band for years. This record seems to score low on a lot of fans/critics list. Maybe it's because it was the second album I bought after the debut, I don't do things 'chronologically', never have done in life or music. Read one review in a Doors special edition magazine, that they'd used up all the songs on the first two albums, so were having to rush the tracks for this. Yet it still produced the four fabulous main songs, Hello, Soldier, Caravan and 5 to 1. It's an album I play and never skip a track, the 'Summer and Winter' songs are both great, even My Wild Love is great in a menacing way. Not to touch the earth is a belter. Yes, the river knows should have been a single...

Here's my ranking of the six 'main' studio albums...

  1. The Doors. One of THE best debut albums ever, but that's hardly original me saying that.

  2. Waiting For The Sun. I doubt that will be second on most lists.

  3. Strange Days. Just some insane songs on there, and was following an album impossible to top let's be honest.

  4. L.A. Woman. They really pulled it out the bag with this one, great singles.

  5. Morrison Hotel. Waiting For The Sun and The Spy among my many faves.

  6. The Soft Parade. I feel like this is a twin to Hot Space by Queen, regularly last on lists, but still had its charms, Wishful Sinful and Tell All The People my go to songs...

I really only got into Meatloaf about early '94, Bat 2 being my first album, obviously I'd heard Bat Out Of Hell, the song, bought that album shortly after Bat 2. So Welcome To The Neighbourhood was MY first 'new' album of his. Girlfriend and myself went to a tribute band in Malvern (England), early last year. They played Lie For You, Rubber Meets Road, Not a Dry Eye and Running for the red light, so 4 songs in total. I still regularly play the album, never skip a track, even 45 seconds, just adds to crazy feel of the record. Love the artwork, and yes the Steinman songs are my personal favourites, but I like how the whole album doesn't take itself seriously, it's a real ride into the wild! Interesting to hear what other fans think of it, 21 (where's all THAT gone?!?) years on...
