Hi all,

I have an 11 year old black lab who has completely gone off of her usual dog biscuits she has at breakfast and dinner.

We took her to the vet last week and they said she had gingivitis and prescribed an antibiotic and she is booked in to have her teeth cleaned next week.

She was fine the first week she was on the antibiotic, but since Tuesday this week she's gone off her biscuits - we've tried different biscuits but with no luck. She's even refusing boiled chicken which she normally loves.

She did vomit yesterday morning (brown liquid) and we took her back to the vet who gave her an anti-nausea medication and a different antibiotic but again this morning she's refusing her biscuits and boiled chicken. We've even tried soaking her biscuits in beef broth.

She has however eaten a few small treats but this obviously isn't sustainable.

We have got a new golden retriever puppy that we brought home last Friday so we wonder if there is some stress/anxiety. Equally though we are petrified that there is something worse going on, with my partner convinced it's cancer. I really don't know what to do and mentally we are both struggling and in a very bad place.

Timeline

22nd April - Went off Biscuits

23rd April - Went to vet, diagnosed with gingivitis and given antibiotic and was then eating fine

24th April - New puppy arrived

24th April - 28th April - Eating fine (combination of biscuits and boiled chicken)

28th April - Went off biscuits/boiled chicken

29th April - Vomited brown liquid. Went back to vet who gave an anti-nausea medication and a different/broad spectrum antibiotic. Only ate some treats

30th April - Continues to be uninterested in biscuits even when soaked in beef broth and continues to be uninterested in boiled chicken.
