"There Is No Sound Of The 2020s Yet" claims RA

In a new article they dropped today, taking apart the last six years quite forensically.

Honestly a pretty interesting argument. Its super long, I am nowhere near complete already and do not agree with all the points but it certainly exposes this feeling of disconnection and sense of deja vu in underground music lately. A lot of Overload names in there and some cool bits of history I didnt know.

Strange times – maybe just getting old. Who knows. Anyway, kinda depressing but thoughtful stuff.

Edit: Didn't realize there were two parts. Here is the followup

Your first impressions/memories of songs that went on to be huge

Self explanatory, I would love to hear tales of early recollections for songs (or albums) that blew up super hard, but your first exposure was just on a sonic level.

E.g. It is impossible for me to encounter the opening riff of „Smells Like Teen Spirit“ today without its world changing impact and all that followed. I was listening more to Prince and dance in my youth and did not connect with grunge until after. Famously, Courtney Love was even convinced „In Bloom” would be the hit... can anyone in 1991 say how it felt?

All examples welcome: What did you think of a future-legendary piece of music on early contact? And can you recall when it begins to go supernova?

I feel he is pretty underrated, even though the SlapFunk sound has a strong exertion on the music you tend to hear the 2026 class of cool DJs play. A master of his craft and so many good jams. Not sure why he has never taken off as hard as some.

Are you a fan? And I would love to where else to go on a similar tip with producers like this, old or new? Thanks!
