Didn’t pick it up because realistically it’s just gonna sit in a book shelf and would rather have one of my Roy records on display. Cool to see in the flesh though, thought I’d share for any fellow Roy of the Ravers fans

How did I just now discover this album? What a masterpiece

Not really dance music but I know his other music is posted to here a lot. I never really could get into his drum and bass stuff but this album really did it for me and made his music click. Anyone else love this album? Am I just late to the party?

Ricardo villalobos, Fabric 04.07 .

First of all, in classic ricardo fashion, he arrives extremely late(around 9 a.m.) and then plays an even more classic set.

For those who attended, i was in a black t-shirt, a chinese lettering graphic pn the back. a bandage on my left wrist and right index finger.

You might have also known me more specifically, as i took of my shirt and put on my waist like a chef's towel, or even more specifically as the 'shirtless ice guy', it was not sweat on me, it was alot of melted ice!

I might've overdosed my stuff a bit and kept rubbing ice all over myself, but no regrets. It felt amazing! And if you were anywhere near the decks on ricardo's set, i probably offered you to try it, and i would like to thank those who joined in, made it all the more fun!(please reachout so i can remember you!)

And thanks to all the people who danced their hearts out, the floor was on fire, and everyone did their part. A lot of compliments to a lot of people were due, but i couldn't always remember to give them, so if you were on the floor today, i extend my compliments to you.

But most importantly thanks to Haython(i think thats how you spelled it) a 51 year old angel who took me under her wing for the night and i want you to know you've made my night truly special, consider me one of your sons from here onwards, and i truly hope i meet you again, you made it a night i will never forget with your big and sweet heart. Please, please, please, if anyone knows a haython who was there that night, let her know! And if you read this haython, Reachout, please!!

And to all the other legends whom I had the pleasure of chatting with, also reach out so i can thank you personally.

And the rest....

Please share your experiences, Stories, and thoughts if you'd like so, it was my first ever seeing ricardo at fabric, and safe to say, it lived up to all the merit and a bit more, and it wouldn't have been as good as it was without everyone involved!

Overload-y places in Freiburg and Strasbourg?

Hi! I recently asked for some clubbing advice for London (THANK YOU to the people who suggested Spanners, I had a blast!), so here I am back for more travel advice. I will be in Freiburg (Germany) for work the last week of July, and I am wondering if there are some nice clubs/events/concerts/bars Overloaders would recommend? I think I will also add on a day or two in Strasbourg as I am travelling by train and can be quite flexible. I am a woman in my mid-forties with an eclectic taste--I love dancing and house music is my first love, but I also love techno, experimental/noise, free jazz, etc. Always up for discovering something new. Thank you for all and any advice!

How do techno DJs judge whether two tracks will sound cohesive together?

I have a question about track selection and sonic continuity in deep / hypnotic techno DJing.

When mixing techno, I feel that the current track and the next track should usually have some kind of cohesion, unless the DJ is intentionally creating a sudden contrast or dramatic shift. Especially in deep or hypnotic techno, I feel that the transition works best when the overall atmosphere, groove, and sonic character do not suddenly fall apart.

However, I find it difficult to describe exactly what this cohesion consists of. I assume it may involve things like:

* perceived loudness and overall pressure

* the relationship between kick and bass

* low-end weight and balance

* midrange texture

* brightness or harshness in the highs

* rhythmic density and groove

* sense of space, reverb, and depth

* overall energy level and tension

As an amateur DJ, I find it very difficult to judge this only through headphones in the booth. When I cue the next track in my headphones, I can check the beat, phrase, and general vibe, but I often cannot tell whether the track will really blend well with the one currently playing until I hear it through the main speakers. Differences in low end, loudness, midrange texture, or overall pressure become much more obvious once the track is actually played on the sound system.

So I would like to ask more experienced techno DJs, especially those who play deep or hypnotic techno.

How do you judge whether two tracks are sonically compatible?

Do you prepare your tracks in advance in Ableton or another DAW, for example by adjusting loudness, EQ, or overall balance? Do you analyze waveforms or spectrums and categorize tracks based on sonic characteristics? Do you use detailed tagging systems? Or does this mostly come from experience, so that you can tell from a short headphone preview whether a track will work in the current context?

Any advice about preparation, tagging, or how to train this skill would be very helpful.

Recommendations for recent electro?

I absolutely love electro but I realized that I haven’t really been keeping up with newer artists, labels, or releases. I’m into pretty much all styles. A few somewhat recent artists I’ve enjoyed include Sansibar, Animistic Beliefs, and Assembler Code. I’d love to discover some of the new stuff happening in this space. Grateful for any recommendations!

Berlin studio run

Since this sub generally has some knowledgeable & experienced lurkers, Ill propose the question here in seeking interesting opinions.

The inevitable has reached me - a proposal to rent a studio in Berlin (acoustically viable, great sound although very small) to try myself out in making some interesting music & exploring myself artistically on a deeper level.

Im interested in hearing out similar experiences, do's & dougn'ts, success stories, what to look out for, ways to make this work & how it can fall apart (hear more of this than anything else)

Maybe some applyable wisdom will reach us.

Super excited to go broke & find ways to reinvent oneself

2h50m HQ Underground House Mix. Perfect for Pre- and Afterparty’s!

Made a long seamless mix built around groovy club house, classic pressure and smooth late-evening flow. Handcrafted and well-curated with attention to detail to create a smooth symphony instead of 2u43m likeminded tracks in a row with smooth transitions. Feedback most certainly welcome!

It starts warm and steady, then moves through more clubby sections without turning into big-room stuff. Good if you have people over pre- and after a party to let the room settle into a long, house-driven groovy flow.

Tracklist can be found in comments.

Enjoy!
