LMy current company does not have a true CS department. However, it could desperately use one. Their idea of a cs department is a cobbling together of small aspects from other departments: support, hospitality, implementation, and that’s about it. My company is the largest tech company for its industry in the history of humanity (I’m not exaggerating). But has no legit cs department. I could email the CEO right now and he’d respond to any feedback I’d give him. Same goes for any level of leadership. They had a posting for this job they labeled CSM which is why I applied…but it barely has some key aspects. I have 5+ years of csm experience and I’m easily making 40-60k under what I should be making.
The one upside is I have impressed the immediate leadership immensely. Things that are super common to a basic csm role seem like GOLD to them. The problem is there isn’t a clear path forward for me in terms of career or getting better pay.
Do I crank out the work like I’m a csm, build my own work flow and worst case scenario I have good stuff to add to my resume? I could really make myself shine but I totally don’t buy the do the work of the job you want and you might get it, philosophy.
Me: Hell yeah Duiker made it!!
Also me: No…nooo….NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I have kind of an odd request, so let me explain my logic up front. I have worked with a few coaches, seen dozens and dozens more, read all the articles, etc and everyone has advice on what to do to a resume and how to word everything. And no two suggestions are a like. So, I want to try and see for myself what has worked for real people.
If you have been hired within the last year and you have at least 5-6 years of CS experience, would you mind sharing the details (minus all personally identifiable information) of your resume? This also extends to anyone who feels they get hired easily in CS roles. I truly not yet confident my resume is structured or worded in a way that would make someone hiring go “We definitely need him at the top of the list!”
I get this may be a weird request, I totally get if people don’t want to do it. I was let go from last job and had to take 401k money out and accept an offer making 20k less and I’m fed up. I know my experience is good enough to get me 100k at minimum. I just want to see what others are working with in regards to their resume.
Can anyone who’s read both series give me an idea of how different the FatF is from the Bloodsworn sage? I’ve read the Bloodsworn trilogy and am considering the faithful and the fallen. I love the action, interactions, and some character growth Gwynne put in the Bloodsworn saga books, but could have used a bit more depth and world building. Is the FatF pretty much the same or different?
What apps or tools or software do you use that aren’t company assigned or required but you love them and they make your life easier?
