Hello r/Saas!
I'm Doug. A senior dev with nearly 15y experience. I have worked all over the stack, in many roles, across many different tech stacks. I lean backend. Most of my experience is in databases, APIs (primarily REST), business logic layers. I've built for desktop, cloud, proprietary systems, industrial control and automation systems, acoustic analysis, "black-box" replacements, and a bunch of other stuff.
I've done everything from bespoke niche desktop apps to complex AWS architecture and distributed systems/tenant management APIs.
I started my own consulting business in 2021 (and worked a lead engineer position at a Fortune 500 while doing my business on the side until going FT into the business mid 2025).
Recently, I launched my own SaaS (not sharing the name or link here, as it's against this subreddit's rules). Also not sharing the name of my consulting business or a link to that. Don't ask 😄.
I spent most of my career pre-AI, was an early AI adopter, and have used LLMs in many contexts. Today I primarily use Claude Code + VSC for most of my workflows.
I'm here to answer any questions you have. Happy to share war stories, discuss architectural decisions, or whatever else. Cannot share specific details about my clients or their products (especially active ones) out of respect for their privacy.
Happy to talk to people who have never written a line of code and are curious, industry veterans, and anyone in between.
Ask away!
