Not sure if this is the right sub, but I’ve had these spots since I was about 25. I’m trying to figure out if they’re sun spots or melasma. I’ve worn sunscreen every single day since I was around 10, and the more I learned, the more I kept trying different types — five years of physical sunscreen (Australia Lizard brand), then Asian chemical sunscreens for about 5–10 years, then switching between pigmented EltaMD and Asian chemical formulas for another five years, and now European sunscreens because they seem to offer better protection for pigmentation.
I’ve tried kojic acid soap, vitamin C serum, arbutin, IPL (which actually burned my face a bit), and a YAG laser session. I’m Asian, so I’m not sure if that affects how my skin should be treated. I use tretinoin once a week because my skin is pretty sensitive. I also use benzoyl peroxide morning and night because my acne flares up if I don’t. I’ve spent so much money trying different treatments, and I’m honestly not sure what to do next. If anyone has dealt with something similar or knows what direction I should look into, I’d really appreciate the insight.
