Dull skin! Need advice!

I don't know if this is a 30+ concern but since I am 30+ I thought this is the best place to ask. So I had really bad acne as a teen which for the most part I have under control now. I still get the occasional pimple but that's mainly due to hair care products (my skin breaks out very easily so even if some of my hair oils or best protectant gets close to my face I start to break out).

I have a bit of redness on my nose area but despite all the products I use and a pretty good skin care routine, my skin is never *glowing*. I remember even as a kid feeling that way. It just always seems pale and dull and having such sensitive skin has always been a struggle to find products.

I have a good routine-cleanse, tone, moisturizer. I remove make up before bed.

I don't necessarily want "glass" skin just a healthy glow

First time using Tretinoin, please share advice and wisdoms to this newbie!

Finally got in to a dermatologist for a red spot on my nose and for some cystic acne (35F). Turns out the red spot is rosacea and damaged vessels (no cancer!).

She prescribed me:

Benzac 10% gel wash.

Salicylic acid topical liquid

Retin-A micro 0.1% gel (Tret)

Been using The Ordinary Retinol 1% for a few years now, so my skin is used to retinol. I also have extremely sensitive skin so I’m quite scared to use this stuff.

Peace-out wrinkle patches dupe?

I used to love using Peace Out Wrinkle Patches for my forehead lines. They did wonders, but they are pricey. Then I got Botox a few years ago and stopped using them, then I stopped getting Botox and didn't start using the patches again. Botox isn't in my the cards now for a lot of reasons (paying for private school, possibly trying to have a second kid) but the wrinkles are BUGGING ME and the other moms I meet are either in their 30s or getting injectables and I feel like I have to do something.

They don't even sell these patches on Amazon anymore. Any good alternatives? Are frownies my best bet? I feel like you can't use those with serums. Thanks in advance!

Swollen eyes

I need some help with my eyes. Since a few years back I have had recurring problems with my eye lids swelling up. It happens for a few days and then I'm fine for a while (a couple of months) and then happens again. And I have no idea why. At first I suspected allergies but honestly idk anymore, I have pollen allergy so take meds for that but this keeps on happening even if I have been take antihistamines regularly. And my eyes never get red or inflamed or flaky they just swell up and itch so, so, so bad. Like I wanna rip my eye lids off bad. I've tried changing eye creams several times but it just keeps happening. What I suspect is I scratch my eyes in my sleep when the itch comes and as a result I wake up barely being able to open my eyes. I honestly feel so defeated as I dont want to leave my house looking like this... anyone got some advice on eye creams that could help with swelling and itchy eyes?

I haven't used anything other than moisturiser the last 1,5 years on my eyes due to pregnancy and breastfeeding.

See photo from my latest flare (today), I've put some light pink cooling balm on it before the photo to reduce the itch so dont mind that.

Edit: thanks for the replies. I will get in touch with my local doctors office. ❤️

Skincare routine with minimum products

Hi,

I have acne-prone, sensitive and sometimes oily skin. I always struggled with acne but after using roaccutane and being 30. I only have once a while, but still the red pigment doesn’t disappear fast. I want to know what kind of products to use for this purpose and also to prevent wrinkles. I can see that my skin is getting more tired.

I dont want too many products, currently I only use: cleanser, moisturiser, eye cream and sunscreen.

Cleavage skin deteriorating

My décolleté is getting less and less smooth.

I'm 35 now, and I can see the quality of my skin deteriorating on my décolleté. I'm really self-conscious about it. And so the difference between my face and the cleavage is very noticeable...

What are the best products or routines you use for this area?

I was fine with this area for a long time, but I feel like what I'm doing is no longer suitable or sufficient. Please share your products/tips for this area!

Thanks so much

Stuff under my eye, It's not an eye bag? My fam member got this too, looks like those Egyptian under eye makeup, tbh makes me kind of insecure. I see a lot of east + southeast Asian ppl got this too. I think it's impossible to remove it?

Paupière tombante du jour au lendemain

La peau de ma paupière est devenue tombante du jour au lendemain, littéralement du jour au lendemain.

Pas particulièrement sèche, elle est comme ça depuis 1 semaine maintenant.

Des solutions ?

35F - Has anyone effectively treated these with skincare or is my only option some sort of injectable/surgery?

Hi all,

I am barely softly smiling in this photo and these lines from my nose and at the corners of my mouth are driving me nuts.

I am about to turn 36, and recently lost 35 pounds and I feel like WHOA my skin has really taken a nosedive in the last 2-3 years. Looking at photos from just 2 years ago I do not have these lines at rest.

These wrinkles by my mouth are driving me absolutely nuts and seem to have appeared in the last few months. Honestly, the entire lower half of my face is rapidly aging, but these lines in particular are bugging me.

Can someone be straight with me - are these helped by skincare or do I realistically need to look into injectibles/some sort of surgery down the line?

Glycerin - tell us your secrets!

I am new to glycerin! I got this one from local Walgreens. It comes in generic brands too, but I didn't see one at the store.

I'm still experimenting, and I love it!

  • I shower with it -- drops in shampoo, conditioner, body wash. Luxe!
  • I diluted it in water and misted on my face
  • A few drops on my face, after cleansing, while I'm still very wet
  • Mixing with day and night moisturizer
  • A misted layer before SPF
  • (Edit to add:) A glycerin layer before a hydrating sheet mask - holy cow, the glow!!

I have loved all of these!

This is a concentrated product and you only need a few drops per use, so I think it will last a long time. $7.50 for the bottle that should last months, which is so nice because everything is expensive. You know. And if this keeps me hydrated, in all the ways, I will use less of other products in my routine, stretching all my skincare dollars.

Anecdotal: Where I live, yesterday was extremely hot, and I felt more comfortable than usual. I wondered if my glycerined body was keeping me comfortable in the humidity. Weeks ago, I traveled to a warm and humid area (pre-glycerin), and I felt so gross the whole time and my hair got weird. Maybe it's a stretch that glycerin could do all this, but it feels plausible. :)

Since I'm still new to using it, I would love to hear tips from people who have been using it for a long time.

(I searched the sub for glycerin, and didn't see any recent in-depth conversations.)

How to cope with looking “mean” because of aging

This is more discussion based than asking for specific routine help so I hope it’s okay here.

I’ve been really struggling. I’m 34 so still relatively young, and up until like a year and a half ago was mostly okay with the way my face looked as I was starting to have some small signs of aging. However, I went through a stressful event and got covid for the first time about 18 months ago and I swear it caused rapid aging because my facial structure changed completely. Before, I always had a face that was pretty smiley and relaxed looking. I have pretty strong features (dark eyebrows) but they were counteracted with the general softness of the rest of my face.

The signs of the aging that occurred really feel like they came out of nowhere and happened quickly. My under eyes hollowed out completely, and my nasiolabial folds are deep and pull my mouth into a frown. I feel like I look SO severe and angry with my dark eyebrows, tight/drawn face that has lost all of the volume, and downturned mouth. My eyes even look less bright because of the orbital fat loss? It’s hard to even understand how my face changed so severely and I’m scared to go on one of those subs that tells you the ways that your face should be improved to get someone to analyze it more.

The part that I’m struggling with the most is that I look straight up mean now, like a mean person or someone who has been frowning their whole life. It’s really messing with my head because I don’t feel like I’ve been that way or frowned excessively, I’ve tried to live a life with joy/compassion/laughter etc. I feel like there’s so many moral judgements that exist around aging in this way that I have internalized from hearing over the years. For example how everyone was saying that Karoline Leavitt aged “badly” because of hate. That whole discussion online tripped me up so much because I feel almost like I did something wrong or deserve this or am being punished because of how I’m aging.

I keep going for “radical acceptance” but it impacts my day to day life so much. I just feel embarrassed about looking this way. I feel like even when I smile now (which I try to do a lot to look more approachable) I still look more mean/angry/drawn than how I feel. I know it’s silly but I always hoped I would age to be one of those sparkly smiley old women and instead I look miserable and ill. I wanted to approach aging with grace but instead feel so depressed and feel like I can’t adapt and it’s not feeling any better over time.

Sigh. I guess I’m partially just venting/grieving, but also curious if anyone else has dealt with this same feeling, like sadness over how your face doesn’t match your conceptualization of yourself, and discomfort at how much people just assume you are a bad person who lived a bad life if you age in a certain way. I’m feeling pretty desperate and am at the point where I’m considering trying to get filler or something to counteract it but it’s really the mental part that I’m having a hard time navigating.

How do you not get sunscreen in your eyes!?

I'm 40 and am trying to use sunscreen more consistently, but I get it in my eyes like nearly every day.

When I apply it, I try not to go super close to my eyes. But then when I put undereye concealer on (necessary) I must be smudging it up very close to the lids. Then if my eyes water (often), or I rub my eyes, or anything along those lines it goes straight into my eye and I'm blinded for a while. Cry all my makeup off on the one eye... it's a whole mess.

I've taken to just wearing foundation that has 50SPF, but I don't always want a full face on.

Any tips?

37F. Face is feeling a bit lifeless. How to improve?

Straight to the point here!

My face is looking quite droopy and lifeless after my weight loss (40 pounds in a year, woohoo 🎉). I’m trying to determine what I need to do to bring some light back to my face. I want to look like me, but ✨better ✨ (don’t we all? lol)

While my budget isn’t super strict, I don’t particularly want to spend thousands getting multiple treatments done. While I’ve done a consult with my medspa on this, the full treatment plan (which would span about 12 months) was $$$$. The only recommended treatment in the plan that I’ve seriously considered is Sculptra, and I’ve read both success and horror stories about it, so still on the fence.

So I’m here to ask: What have you all personally done to put some life back into your face, particularly after volume loss? What worked for you and what didn’t? What’s worth the $$$ and what should I stay the hell away from?

Thank you!

Has anybody who started in their mid 20s stopped Botox in 30s?

I’ve been getting forehead Botox since 25, im 30 now and wondering if I should stop… I have pretty prominent vertical forehead muscles that made me self conscious- but no actual wrinkles. However my forehead skin is looking thinner and i kind of miss my old expressions. im worried it’s going to be an endless cycle and I should get off the hamster wheel

Has Tretinoin improved or hurt your skin?

I’m trying to get an idea of what people’s overall experience has been with tretinoin. If you have been taking it for a while do you feel you have been able to see a positive difference, neutral or bad difference? I’ve been on it for 1.5 years and honestly can’t say I’ve seen too much improved. My pores are larger but then again I also am 35 so that makes sense and I can’t say tretinoin caused that. Thoughts everyone?

Lower Face and Skin Advice Plzz

Hey y'all. I'm in my late 30s and not loving the way my lower face is aging. Main concerns are nasolabial folds and sagging. I got cheek and mid-face filler years ago and it looked good, but I'm not sure I should make it a habit out of fear of migration over time. I've also tried Thermage and it did absolutely nothing. I'm considering Morpheus 8 on lower face only (Maybe even avoiding cheeks to reduce chance of accidental fat loss? Do people do that?) and temple filler to life a little and balance my face out. Maybe Sculptra if it makes sense. Thoughts on this combo for my concerns? Any other recommendations? I'm open to ideas.

Secondarily, I'm looking for any other suggestions on how to improve. I just started tret in March (no visible results yet), and I'm thinking IPL or BBL to even out redness and broken blood vessels.

Botox sickness?

I’ve been getting Botox consistently for over three years now across my forehead and masseters and never had any issue. However, after this most recent time (same injector and same amount of units) I have felt quite sick afterwards. Almost flu-like symptoms with extreme fatigue and cold/sinus symptoms for three weeks now. Nothing severe enough to go to the dr but definitely enough to notice it and feel off.

Has this happened to anyone else? I’m starting to feel slightly better but this is definitely unusual for me so wanted to see if anyone else has a similar experience?

Botox metabolizing faster as I’ve gotten older.

Has anyone else noticed they metabolize Botox faster as they age? Botox used to last almost 6 months for me and now that I’m 36, it lasts about 1.5. Same injector. Same formula. I don’t think I can justify spending thousands of dollars a year to keep a smooth forehead.
