Just completed a, "I'm not evil, I'm just incompetent" run.

I completed the game a couple weeks ago. I had no background with D&D and had not played any of the other BG games so I went in cold. I had a lot of fun playing and completing the game but after watching some Youtube vids on various play through decisions I've been laughing to myself about all the accidental terrible decisions I made which resulted in a path of bodies in my wake. Would have been a good start to an Evil/Durge run but each poor decision was made simply because I didn't understand what I was doing. Here's some of the highlights (lowlights?).

  • Harpies, dead. Kid taken by the Harpies, also dead. Guess I didn't realize I was supposed to save him.
  • Auntie Ethel, dead. Mayrina? Saved! Then plunged into the chasm due to not putting out her cage in time.
  • Baelen Bonecloak, I blew up the mushrooms with a fireball resulting in his death, not entirely sure what I was thinking. Sorry Derryth.
  • Isobel, Easily taken at Last Light Inn.
  • Jaheira, Overtaken in battle at the Last Light Inn. I had no idea she was an important character, had to fight this battle like five times till I won. Jaheira died every time.
  • Isobel at Myrkul. Killed outright. Forgot who she was, not sure if I had a chance to save her or not.
  • Me, smiling, waving goodbye to an obviously sad Halsin after I did not lift the curse in the Shadow Cursed Lands. (I guess I missed this was a quest I could complete someshow).
  • Auntie Ethel II, dead. Baby? Also dead, even after careful preparation and care to not kill the baby.
  • Zanner Toobin, survived the first battle...to immediately die somehow after the battle.
  • Everyone on the Iron Throne Submarine, dead, maybe one right at the front survived. I had just been walking around BG exploring and I stumbled upon the submarine. Gortash told me if I board he'd blow it up. I boarded anyways. Found out I had five turns to save everyone. I didn't quite understand the quest so I just immediately left the sub resulting in everyone's death.
  • Minsc, thought I was going to recruit Minsc. Him and Jaheira attacked me so I killed them both. Turns out Jaheira was a shapeshifter and Minsc was...dead because I killed him.

I felt like this game was like that skit in Chappelle's show where contestants answer questions on black culture and no matter what was said Chappelle enthusiastically answers, "Correct!" No matter how poorly you solve or fail a quest, the game is like, "Congrats! You're moving on!" What a completely insane, amazing game!
