To B2 or Not B2 - Is this Maralen Fae Ascendant deck a bracket 2 or barcket 3 deck?
I was playing in my regular commander pod and one of the players said he wanted to test out a bracket 2 [[Maralen, Fae Ascendant]] deck.
He didn’t share much details of the deck in our turn 0 chat, only that there’s no combos, game changes and the deck was based around tokens.
With that little information, group obviously was fine with him playing it. Until things like [[Dark Ritual]], [[Omniscience]] and [[Boseiju, Who Endures]] started landing on the board.
He played two games with this deck and out curved everyone else’s decks with ease. In turn 5 in both games he was in a dominating position with high potential to be in a winning position by turn 7.
I don’t believe that expensive cards equals higher bracket. But this deck has some premium ramp, removal/interaction and token/counter doubling cards in it which I wouldn’t typically expect to see in a bracket 2 game.
On Archidekt this deck is estimated to be a bracket 2. I always take deck building tools bracket suggestions with a huge pinch of salt because they seem to struggle with estimating compounding effects, cards that stack multiplicatively and assess inevitability.
My questions to you is if you played it against this deck, would you consider a bracket 2 or a bracket 3?
