Pulled the trigger on solar install. Community thoughts?
After two years of considering it, we've decided to go ahead with a solar installation. I'd appreciate thoughts on the proposed setup, particularly the solar panels, battery make/model, and whether the Growatt app is user-friendly for daily use.
The installer estimates the system will cover about 68% of our annual electricity usage (using conservative figures). We're a family of four in a 4-bedroom detached house, and used 5,690 kWh last year. We don't currently have an EV, but plan for our next car to be electric. Does 68% self-sufficiency sound realistic for this setup?
The installer also said that income from exporting excess electricity should roughly cover our annual standing charges. Is that a reasonable expectation or more of a sales pitch?
I've been researching solar-friendly tariffs and currently plan to switch to Octopus Intelligent Flux once the system is installed. Are there any other tariffs or suppliers worth considering that might be a better fit?
Any feedback, experiences, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT/UPDATE: people have been asking for pricing. We’ve negotiated £12.5k for the install. Includes all set up, scaffolding etc.
