Tomato sauce question

Hello all. This summer I have been saving all my tomatoes in the freezer after coring them and last night following into this morning I finally thawed them all, peeled the skins and processed them into 27 cups of tomato sauce. I'm following the Ms. Wages tomato sauce recipe which calls for 10 cups per packet. Would it be safe to use a commercial plain tomato sauce to make up the missing 3 cups to make 3 full batches? My husband thinks I should just add a little more than half from the third packet but I don't want to rid the acidity levels being messed up. My other idea would be to process 3 more cups of whole tomatoes but I already cleaned up from my big processing this morning and I don't have the time for that. I plan on water bath canning. Thoughts?

Pickled Onions

Hey guys. Referencing the Ball complete book of home preserving book, is the red onions in vinegar recipe on page 316 similar to the common red pickled onion like in the photo below? If not, does anyone have an approved recipe for these?

Confirmed asbestos tile- What next?

Hey all. My husband and I bought our house last year. It was built in 1938 in Des Moines, IA. We recently experienced mild flooding in our finished basement which caused us to pull up carpet and reveal what we thought was asbestos. We sent in a sample for testing which confirmed that yes- it is asbestos. So my question is, now what? Our grandmother is recommending a paint called Encapsulant but I want to know if this is something that we can receive assistance on. Does insurance cover removal? Is there government programs for removal? I just want to see all potential options before we dump money.

Grandma's Dill Pickles

Hey all,

Using the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving book, I'm looking for a classic dill pickle recipe. This one for Grandma's Dill Pickles on page 326, jumped out at me for being pretty simplified. I have a few questions about the wording. Says it requires 8lbs of pickling cucumbers, trimmed. What is trimmed referring to? Also, are these meant to be packed as whole cucumbers or can I spear them? Also, this recipe doesn't use any crisping agent but instead it has you refrigerate them with ice for 12 hours. Is this to act as the crisping? I'm looking to make a lot of pickles that will store for awhile. Is this a good recipe for that? Advice is appreciated and even other approved recipes for good dill pickles is even more appreciated. (Spicy is good too haha)
