Joint tenancy vs Sole tenancy for UC housing costs
Hi all, my wife and I are moving to a new place which is managed by a housing association. When making the housing application, the council, made me the sole tenant and my wife the occupant. I hadn't noticed since it was over the phone. Our UC is a joint claim, and I remember UC asked her to sign the tenancy agreement of our previous place last year, in order for them to process it.
When I asked my new landlord (the housing association) to update the tenancy agreement to make her a joint tenant, they informed me: "sorry, we have to go with what is written in the housing application".
My question:
can UC process a sole tenancy agreement on a joint claim?
will UC pay my portion at least? Or would they just disregard it outright?
What ramifications can come from this?
