My Experience with Camtech Alec of Cameohub
After thinking about this for a while, I’ve decided to share my experience with Camtech Alec of Cameohub so others can make an informed decision.
I sent my Ricoh GR in for repair in middle of 2025. What followed was nearly a year of repeated delays, apologies, and reasons why the repair was taking longer than expected. Throughout the process, I consistently followed up and was repeatedly assured that progress was being made.
Near the beginning of 2026, I was sent a video showing the camera appearing to work and was told it had already been shipped. Based on this, I paid nearly ₱9k for parts and labor. Later, I was informed that there had been logistical issues with the shipment.
As the months continued, I repeatedly requested the return of my camera. By last month, I learned that the camera was actually still not working. At that point, after waiting almost a year, I no longer wanted to continue with the repair and simply asked for my camera back regardless of its condition.
Before it was released to me, I was asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. In return, the shop agreed to release my camera and refund the payment. I agreed because, after waiting nearly a year, I just wanted my camera back.
I then sought a second opinion from another repair technician. According to their inspection, there were missing screws, the built-in flash—which had been working before I sent it in—was no longer functioning, and they believed it may had been parted. A third opinion was asked, and believed that repair was bad that it looked like it was parted.
As of today, I also have not yet received the agreed refund. I’ve attempted multiple times to reach out, with no replies any longer.
I understand that repairs can be difficult and that not every repair is successful. But it did not feel as though my time nor camera were respected. I’m not trying to influence anyone’s decision, I just wanted to share my own experience.
