I got a warning today headed in to work saying that the oil is running low on my 2020 BMW m340i and it recommended I put in a quart of oil. I waited 8 hours till after I was done with work and the warning was still there, So i put in a quart of oil that I had in my trunk from when I changed it myself a year or two ago. I haven't noticed any leaks or anything where I normally park it. I tried to check the oil level on my car after making it back home but it would time out after it would make it to around 18%. I did a bit of digging on redit and it seems this is a common issue with the oil senor and I might need to get the oil pump exchanged, but my concern is that the warning I got originally for the low oil was a false positive and I just put too much oil in the engine. The last time I had the oil changed was about 4 months back at a midas, so I'm not sure if they just gave me the bare minimum oil for the car and its just triggering now? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
