Quote for EKPS, fuel pump, and battery

I got a quote for 2,620 to replace the fuel pump, ekps module, and battery. 2k is for the pump and ekps. The rest is for the battery.

I think it is a little bit high as the battery is in the trunk and the fuel pump and module are under the back seat but I wanted to get a second opinion here before taking it to a new shop.

2022 X5 40d oil lines

Am halfway through changing both high pressure and low pressure turbo feed lines, anyone still at the dealer know why they give you around 12-14 hours for this job? Currently 2ish hours in and its going back together, if this a mistake on AIR? No engine out preliminaries?

Just bought a 2009 128i at 181k miles what are some priority maintenance item I should take care of first?

Just purchased this 2009 E82 128 for $3k. It seems like it was taken care of for most of its life so far but the last 2 owners who were related drove it for about 30k miles and they did all their own work themselves. DIY is great and plan to do the same but I also know most people half ass most things. I want to make this car last for atleast another 100k. Problem I know of right now are a small Evap leak and airbags/restraint malfunction also some small leak from the oil pan gasket. Any tips for those issues aswell as any suggestions for priority of replacing parts would be helpful. Also should I order a timing chain kit or just check the tension?

I need help on two opposing opinions on car repairs

So a couple of months ago my coolant thermostat got stuck open (diagnosed at auto zone) the attendant said that I can’t drive it at all until I get it fixed but my mechanic (not bmw mechanic) said it isn’t a problem, I’m skeptical because my mechanic has messed up a previous car I asked him to work on because he didn’t know how to work on it (it was a Nissan and he works for Mazda)

BMW E93 335i 2010 N55 should I be worried?

Anyone know what this could be? My car takes forever to start, and there’s a weird metal-on-metal rattling sound from the exhaust when I start it. Should I be worried or can I still drive it for now?

Help identifying power steering hose - N42B20

Hello all,

This power steering hose appears to be leaking at the metal joins. I'd like to replace it but struggling to find a part number or even a guide to replacing. Happy to do the work myself but haven't had much experience yet with power steering systems.

2003 BMW 318ti RHD

Please let me know my best process to replace.

Thanks,

E39 M54B22 coolant issue

I recently bought an e39 with a blown headgasket, since then i have got the headgasket done, most pipes and everything changed but she still doesn’t like coolant. Recently I’ve had this issue where if I drive with the speed limiter on 90-100kmh then I see the temp rise above 90°C then when I take the limiter off and dont give it gas it comes back down to 90°C. I have changed the thermostat and the thermostats opening temp is 97°C. Also when doing a trip where I for example go up to 4000-5000rpm then theres a big amount of pressure in the coolant resovoir. Using the bleeding bolts then alot of air comes out as if there has to be something that lets air in or something.

I can‘t find one and I‘m freaking out

I‘m searching for one of those and can‘t seem to find it (in Germany). Even cars that are going to get butchered are mostly shadow line.

With time I will find one but heck, I can‘t imagine there isn‘t someone selling those.

Blown turbo seal?

  1. 440i. Bm3 Stage 1 91 with catless,cai, inlet.

So got smoke coming into the cabin on gentle freeway drive to work this morning.

Looks like coning from crank case vent hose(turbo inlet to crankcase)

Oil blasted on enging shield right above that pipe.

Could be crqcked under the silver foil, idk.

Ran codes(see image) 1FBD08 ready to drive. MSA deactivation request from BDC)

Tried to start to verify where leak(crank then hard clunk.

Flashed back to stock tune and car started. Kicking tons of smoke out exhaust for 30 seconds.(see image)

Now just a bit of smoke out exhaust, but constant.

What do I do?

I was hoping just that breather hose fron inlet to crank case was just cracked, but why so much oil spray?

Please help!

18 years old considering an E90/E92 328i as a first long-term car

I’m 18 years old and really want a BMW as my first car. Some background: I still live with my parents, I don’t have any bills to pay, my school is already paid for, and I have a very stable part-time job. I make around $1200/month and basically all of it gets saved.

I really like the E90/E92 328i. I know people will hate me for this, but I honestly love NA cars. An M3 just isn’t in the budget right now.

I’d also be doing maintenance myself. I’ve been watching repair videos, learning about the platforms, and I genuinely want to learn how to work on cars properly instead of taking everything to a shop and paying 3x more.

The N52 honestly seems amazing to me. My goal would be to keep the car long-term and daily it to school, hangouts, road trips, etc. I’d probably keep it until very high mileage if possible. I really like the E92 coupe, but I know the E90 sedan is more practical.

I’d love to hear from actual BMW owners:
- How has your N52 experience been?
- What major problems have you had?
- Would you trust one long term?
- Manual or automatic for a first BMW?

I also like the F30 generation. I know the N20 has timing chain issues, but if you replace the timing chain and the common failing plastic parts early on, does it become a good long-term daily? Or does it still end up being more problematic overall than an N52 car? Where I could’ve just had 335i e90 for the same amount of problems?

And yeah, I know everyone says “just get a Toyota/Honda at 18.” I hear it constantly But I want something I can genuinely be enthusiastic about and learn from mechanically. I know myself, and I just wouldn’t care about the car the same way.

Would love to hear your experiences and opinions. Thanks guys :)

Upgrading to M Sport Brakes

As per the title I am strongly considering upgrading the brakes on my car to the M Sport 370/380 set up on my F32 420i and I have a couple questions:

  1. What coding will this take to get working properly

  2. Will the fit under 18” 400m wheels
