Radiator replacement - take back to shop?

Radiator replacement - take back to shop?

Just had the radiator + water pump replaced on 2019 x3 s30 at an independent shop following a slow coolant leak. Noticed these nicks on the radiator after picking it up. Worth bringing back or nah?

Funny noise from my 5 Series, Turbo?

E60 520D, N47.
Noticed this noise awhile back. Sort of a weird wooshing/ticking noise at certain rpm’s under load, but not noticeable stationary which is even stranger
Any ideas?

Are BMW B-series engines using thermal/plasma spray coatings in their cylinder bores?

Having watched a really interesting breakdown on cylinder coatings and their pros/cons relating to performance, emissions, cost etc (see the linked video), does anybody know if BMW are using a form of plasma spray coating on their B-series engines?
The video talks a little about the alusil/silitec approaches used in some of BMW’s more famously unreliable performance engines, but as the proud owner of a humble F20 with a B38, I am interested in the inner workings of my little engine.
Can anybody help?

I have a 2008 bmw 535i recently tried to do a burnout and heard something break near the rear now the car only revs out in drive

The car shifts into every gear and while in drive the driveshaft spins but the cv axles and rear wheels aren’t getting any power. Could it be the differential thats broken?

Thoughts?

E90 328xi from 2008. I have been driving it for about a week since it started, the car has like a hiccup when idling no check engine light. I have changed the spark plugs recently but not the coils, could this be a problem with the coils?
This seems to be happening on long drives during hot days, as on my other drives the car idles fine. The warning light is a brake light which I have also changed recently but didn't bother with resetting the light. thoughts?

High Beam Malfunction

(For F82 M4) I have an issue with my high beams; flash to pass works fine (pulling the stalk back), but to fully activate and lock the beams on (pushing the stalk away), they will not activate. I have no error codes on the iDrive. I’ve read about potential shutter blockage or failure, and potential worn cables, but before I start digging and taking things apart, are there any other ways of verifying?

E60 rough idle after spark plug and coil change

Changed the spark plugs and the ignition coils on my '04 545i E60 (N62). After the replacement the engine rocks around like crazy, strong gasoline smell. Put the old coils and spark plugs back, no change. No check engine light, no fault codes on my universal OBD2 scanner. Anything I could have done wrong that caused this?

Will it fit?

Hi everyone, have this spare 19’ set of style 232 wheels that came with my x5 and was wondering if they can fit on an f30 335i xdrive with stock suspension. I know I might need spacers at front and center hub caps but what do you guys think? To try and put all 4 tires same size like 245/35 R19?

Are independent car repair shops around the world like Germany for example likely to reject me cus of this?

For example: Lets say im 3 year vocational college graduate (2 year of classroom/hand work) and final year being internship but it counts as school work instead official work.

lets say im an immigrant in your country looking for a job in person.

i know reactions probably varies shop by shop, Are they likely to reject person with no post grad work experience?

i dont know what im missing out, And also i havent even started vocational training yet but i will.

DIYing a 330e?

As the first of these are getting on a bit now they’re appearing on my radar.

I tend to run older cars and do any servicing and repairs myself, there’s not many jobs I’ll avoid as I’m fairly confident in my abilities.

I’ve also had a good few BMW’s in the past but more “classics” than modern. E36’s and E46’s

So I guess I’m looking for any experience others might have in home maintenance with these modern cars.

I’d expect 90% of it to be no real issue other than things being harder to access but what about the high voltage power train?

Does it need any regular maintenance? Is it particularly prone to problems?

Does just having it in the vehicle just make the whole thing “unserviceable” unless you have specialist facilities?

Bmw 318i n46 engine misfiring, HELP!!!!

BMW E90 318i (2006, N46) – P0304 Misfire only at idle when engine is warm I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction because I'm running out of ideas. Car: BMW E90 318i 2006 (N46B20) Symptoms: P0304 (Cylinder 4 misfire) Misfires only at idle Runs perfectly fine when driving Only starts misfiring once the engine reaches normal operating temperature Cold start and cold idle are smooth What I've already done: Replaced injector #4 with a known good injector Spark plugs are almost new Ignition coils are almost new Misfire is still only on cylinder 4 The engine idles smoothly when cold, but once it's fully warmed up, cylinder 4 starts misfiring at idle. Under throttle or while driving it feels normal. Could this be a vacuum leak around cylinder 4, a compression/valve issue, injector wiring, or something related to VANOS or Valvetronic? Has anyone experienced this exact symptom on an N46? Any advice on what I should test next would be greatly appreciated

Clearing airbag codes

Is it difficult to clear these codes? Only front passenger airbag went off. 2018 340i

I messed up! 2018 BMW X1 Valvetronic repair fail!

I royally effed up! 😟

My son’s 2018 BMW x1 was throwing Valvetronic codes, so I swapped the servomotor. Easy on this car since it’s mounted externally. I started it up once, it ran fine but was still throwing codes. So I removed the motor again and checked the alignment and all was fine so I put it back again. But I dropped a small screw down the engine bay. When I started the engine it was making a really nasty ratcheting noise. I ran it only for 2-3 seconds but there was a small amount of smoke coming from the rear passenger side end of the engine.

You think it’s the screw causing this? What did I ruin? What’s the first thing to do?

I feel pretty stupid right now! ☹️

Glitter in rear diff fluid

We were getting creaking or rubbing sounds from the rear axel at slow speeds on our '11 E90 328i Xdrive (62k miles) and spent the morning troubleshooting.

With a cheap Amazon stethoscope, I found a clicking sound coming from the passenger (right) side of the rear diff.

Upon changing the diff fluid, it was glittery with a few .5 mm chunks.

Looking like I need a new rear differential.

Any guess on the cause? I changed the fluid a year ago (Delvac 75w90), I do lift the car by the rear diff a few times a year.

How difficult is this as a DIY job on jackstands?

AC not working properly

AC started blowing hot one day last week. Awful time of the year with the heat wave going on but nonetheless, I bought a can of the refrigerant to see if I could recharge it, and the gauge read as very overcharged. I do believe the compressor is coming on, and today it was blowing like, room temp air. Any idea what this could be? I’ve read people say their low pressure port read as full despite not having any refrigerant in their system. Any help appreciated!
