Guns in Scooby-Doo

The appearance of firearms is often censored in children's media, so they don't show up very often in Scooby-Doo, but I was surprised to find as many examples as I did.

  • The New Scooby-Doo Movies features a gunslinger, but he fires in the air, not at anyone. This shot was included in the theme song for the show.
  • Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers has a shocking amount of guns in it. Billy Bob Scroggins repeatedly tries to murder Shaggy with an old blunderbuss. The sheriff carries a revolver and at one point shoots in the air to try to get Billy Bob's attention. The skull ghost later draws a revolver on Shaggy and Scooby to try to get them to back away, but he is thwarted before he can do anything with it.
  • As you'd expect from the setting, Pirates Ahoy has cannons used to sink a ship. Guns are used sparingly, with a pistol only showing up at one point when a pirate shoots swords out of Skip and Fred's hands.
  • Mystery Incorporated takes the cake for violence. In "Howl of the Frighthound" we see police blasting away at a dog, but the dog turns out to be a robot. In the beginning of season 2, a farmer threatens Scooby with a shotgun and is heard to fire it offscreen. But most infamously, the show also features robots with machine guns attached to their arms. A character is gunned down offscreen, but the guns are heard firing. It might be one of the most shocking bits of violence on Scooby-Doo. The episode "Dead Justice" also featured a sheriff ghost, but his bullets were just CGI, so it doesn't count.
  • In Shaggy's Showdown, the villain takes a shot at Shaggy as he tries to ride away. I was quite surprised to see this violence make it onscreen, but maybe it was excused by the cowboy setting.
  • DISQUALIFIED: The tomb robbers in Where's my Mummy are sometimes mistakenly thought to carry guns, but the guns are actually specialized adventuring tools that shoot grappling hooks or nets.
